FI8905W freezing/locking up

Postby bryanw20 » Mon Jul 16, 2012 1:10 pm

I've had my cam for a few months now. Setup was easy, using wifi. Then it looked like maybe I was on the edge of my signal so I ran a hardwire. To it. It still "flickered" occasionally, but pics still viewable. I did do a firmware update several weeks ago, didn't solve my flicker. But now my problem. Is it keeps locking up! I have to physically pull the power to force a reboot.
I have not done a reset yet. It freezes whether on wifi or wire.
suggestions?

I don't know what software you are using but...check your IP on your cameras. I have noticed they change all the time. I use blue iris and with that said I had to make the IP's static instead of dynamic. Good for several months now, no lockups. I believe the IP's had to be made static in the original software that came with the cameras. As far as the flickering is concerned, reduce the res and this will elimanate the flickering. I to did the firmware...no change. Contacted Foscam with the problem and they said to try the contrast and brightness change to see if that helps....it did but not 100%.....only reducing the res worked. I've found that any glare such as the sun reflecting off pavement or driveway will cause flickering during the day. Reflection of any kind will trigger flashing. Hope this helps. Running wire is certainly a step in the right direction.

Thanks for the flicker tip, Ill try that when I get home.

I did assign a static ip # in the camera settings. Using vit D software, don't recall a setting for ip in the software but will look when I get home. Using no-ip to broadcast, but when its frozen can't even log into the cam from a browser on the network.

Do you have FTP alarms set? If so, at what per second rate?

Also, please see this as well: http://foscam.us/forum/reboot-problems-a-solution-t2440.html?hilit=contention#p10558

Depending on Wireless Network contention and speed, 30 FPS may be too fast as well when using wireless.

You may wish to take a peek at something I recently created as well: http://foscam.us/forum/free-generic-browser-interface-for-foscam-mjpeg-ptz-cameras-t2522.html#p10970

Note: I have never tried this with the 905, and have no idea if it will work.

I understand the 905 has no PTZ, so you could use a Visitor User Level Id with this, I think? I really don't know even what User Level Id's the 905 camera supports.

Thanks for the help; no FTP or alarms set; Don't see a setting for resoloution or fps in the camera or Vitamin D software; only when viewing the camera in a browser.

Flicker will be because it's looking over my gravel driveway; so that may not go away; but I need to be able to depend on the camera being on 24/7 & not locking up on me :(

Any other suggestion on the power problem?

I don't think it's wi-fi interference as 1) I live in the country; doubt anyone else's wi-fi is going to transmist 800-1000' min distance. 2) it still locks up when I have it hardwired too.

The camera should be viewable at: wyland.no-ip.org login: guest

You are very welcome.

Are you 100 percent positive you have assigned a Static IP to the camera. If you have, then you should be able to see that IP address in the General Network Settings, for the camera, by going directly to the camera.

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = Local IP Address for the camera.
#### = Port for the camera.

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:####

Please also do this. Please use any browser but a Chrome browser when doing this. When prompted, please enter a Admin Level User Id and Password.

http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:####/get_params.cgi

Please change ("Anything that you do not want public with a 'X') an post the results here.

I'm Pretty sure I set a static ip as I can access the cam via that ip# on any Pc on my network. I'll have to post that info when I get home tonite.

I don't think vit d is the problem because not touching the Pc running the software, when the cam locks up. I can cycle the power and vit. D will start sending emails again.

It seems to lock up every 2 - 3 days here lately.

Ok, when you get home can you please do this as well:

Ok, no issues seen, you are on the most current firmware levels as well.

IMHO, I would change your port to be something other than 80, even 81 if needed.

Here is why.

Your camera, if setup for remote access, could be attempted to be spidered ("Scanned By Search Engines") if the IP:Port is found.

When/if that happens, attempts maybe made to access links found on the menu of the camera, which can and do cause issues.

Generally, port 80 is the port that all web sites use to be accessed with. By setting your port to something other than 80, even 81, you can avoid this, in almost all cases.

Example: Before you were using an IP camera, if someone including search engines attempted to go to your ISP address:port 80 they would hit a dead-end and get nothing in return. Some spiders crawl, by simply incrementing the current IP address+1:80 to find new web sites.

Which could be your ISP Address:80 now.

Now they get a Camera logon menu, when before, they would have not received anything before.

Here is were I am going with this, try these:

http://google.com:80

http://google.com:81

http://msn.com:80

http://msn.com:81

;-)

See how almost any web site is actually hosted on port 80 and can be accessed on port 80, yet port 81 fails to access those same web sites.
