FI8910W with Mac no audio

Postby richbreen » Tue Jun 19, 2012 12:51 pm

Hi there - I've gotten my new FI8910W working through dyndns and can access it remotely, but can't seem to get audio working at all. Can someone please advise how this is supposed to work? I've tried both Chrome and Safari. I do have the VLC browser plug-in installed.

Mac OSX 10.6.8.

Thanks!

The plug-in VLC doesn't compatible with the camera now.
Foscam R&D team is trying to develop a plug-in to enable audio feature on MAC.
There are many programs on the schedule. This may take some time.

Thanks for the reply!

So I guess this camera just doesn't work on a Mac with audio? That's a major drag - guess I'll be returning it. Really a shame that Foscam doesn't make this clear in advance - their packaging all says Mac-compatible; kind of misleading if you ask me...

You can get audio on a Mac by using the VLC app (not the browser) and opening the URL:

http://{CAMERA_IP}/videostream.cgi?user={USER_ID}&pwd={PASSWORD}

Where {CAMERA_IP} is the address of the camera (can be the hostname you picked through dyndns), {USER_ID} and {PASSWORD} are the information used to authenticate viewing of the camera.

For example:

http://hostname.dyndns.org:8080/videost ... d=password

Note that username and password are not sent securely.

If you have an iPad, you can also check out the Foscam Pro app - it supports audio. (I have no affiliation with this app other than being a happy user)

Thanks very much for that - VLC was one of the first things I tried, and with Foscam's help I did get it to work, but as I understand it, it's not possible to get *both* audio and video working simultaneously on a Mac... Kind of makes it not so useful.

I feel totally duped! I just ordered FI8910W - two of them, so there is no way to get video AND sound on a Mac Laptop (Ver 10.8)? I have an iPad, but I didn't want to tie that up exclusively with the video and audio. I need both the video and audio on my Mac Laptop to use as child cams!

What about the uFoscam App in the App Store? Does this do audio? Forking out an additional $12 in software for the iPad and MacAir is a little step for something the camera said it was compatible with out of the box!

Any progress or news about an audio plug-in for Mac ?

So far I am using Foscam Pro with my iPad, and it works quite well, but I still want to use dual-audio function with my MacBook Pro, too.

http://skjm.com/forum/index.php?topic=1416.0
supports audio using icam which also displays and
tracks 4 cameras on one screen with alerts and
automatic recording for use on Macs, iPad, iPhones
etc. Only caveat, iCam costs $4.99 on App store (&
uses free iCam Source for Mac). Make sure to use:
http://xx.xx.xx.xx/video.cgi and MPEG (to find press
? and enter url and foscam in pulldown menu).

Hope this helps. I've found iCam is well worth the
$4.99 in iOS and OSX devices.
