Hi, New App "Foscam Pro" Two way audio and vid recording
Re: Hi, New App "Foscam Pro" Two way audio and vid recording
Just downloaded Foscam Pro Two Way Audio. I've got 4 FI1898 devices and have tried up to 3 different iPhone apps and this appears to be the best so far. UI is clean and intuitive. Setup is a breeze. Nicely done.
On the flip side, i'm having an interesting issue with the audio. All my cams are directly connected using CAT6 to various access points and I use IE for cam management, so, no WIFI except when connecting to the cams with my iPhone. When using my iPhone I either connect to the cams through an access point (ie, WIFI) or through the cloud (3G network when I'm remote). When i activate the audio, I sometimes get a series of clicking noises (which is tolerable). However, I sometimes get a very loud 'grounding' noise. The same kind of sound you would get when touching one end of a live cable connected to an input to an amplifier. This happens on all the cams. Hard to tell what it is.
It makes me a little nervous in that in just installed a brand new FI1898 and after loading the app and experiencing the loud noise, the network interface to the new cam I just installed no longer worked. I plan on returning it to the store and it's probably unrelated and coincidental but nonetheless, a little unsettling.
If this issue can get resovled, this will be the primary app that i'll use and promote to others.
Please advise on this and thank you.

Sorry, I got the model number all screwed up. The model number of the cams i'm using is FI8918.
Thanks and please excuse the goof up.

I also get the intermittent loud noise on the audio feed, and the clicks when I first enable the audio (iPhone 4S).
Put me down as a +1 for the "auto-reconnect" option - the camera seems to get disconnected after a few hours (say, when I'm asleep) - It'd be nice to have the option of having it automatically reconnect if I'm at home on wi-fi.

I've received that, grinding noise, a couple of times myself. I'm not sure the cause yet. I'm going to try to increase the audio buffer a little bit and see if it helps. I wouldn't worry about any damage to your camera... the app isn't really sending much toward the camera so I don't think there is any possibility of damaging the camera from an app. (I'm pretty sure i would have destroyed mine during testing).

I think that is how I will implement... auto reconnect on wifi connections only. When on edge/3g/4g it will be manual reconnect.
Sound good?

John : thanks for the reply. The damage to my cam was a power supply issue. Had nothing to do with the app. I kind of figured that but when circumstances occur in the form of coincidences, i start to second guess myself. I know, bad habbit.
Anyway, let me know what you find out about the audio issue. I just demonstrated your app to two additional folks that have Foscams and they liked it so much, they bought it on the spot.
Keep up the great work.
Thanks,
Moe

John. I just received the huge 9db antenna, it's a big one. anyway did you note the the antenna it self has a female center where as the original antenna has a male? I put it on and it worked but I am sure it barely makes contact. does your have the same thing? I think I can find a gold pin but if you can check yours. just curious.

I guess I didn't highlight it enough in my post... you have to get this adapter to make standard wifi antennas work.
