New Firmware Plug-in for Firefox & Google Chrome

Postby imngeorgia » Thu Jun 09, 2011 7:05 pm

When I click on the link for sound, the video screen says I need a plug-in. On the left of the screen it says this plug-in can be found at http://www.videolan.org/ but when I go there, I have NO idea what to download.

I tried it in Google Chrome and all it says is something like "No plug-in is available".

Anyone know what we need to download to make this feature work!?

Thanks!

How to get audio on firefox browser

The new firmware only support firefox, google chrome to get audio. It does not support safari browser on Mac currently. If you have Mac, please install firefox browser on your Mac to get audio.

a) Please download and install VLC (activeX) first before use audio function. This is the download link: http://www.videolan.org
NOTE: When you install VLC, please choose the “Mozilla plugin” box.

b) Click audio button and you will hear sound that the camera captured.

c) Click CloseAudio button and audio will be closed.

If you wish, you may download the full instructions here:

I already had VLC installed on my computer, but I uninstalled it and reinstalled it. It never gave me the opportunity to select "Mozilla Plug-in". And yes, I am on a Mac using Firefox.

FYI... I've yet to get the audio working in FF on my linux machine, despite having VLC (and the FF plugin) installed. But I haven't really tried in earnest yet.

However, it is working on my Windows 7 machine in FF (with the VLC plugin).

Seems when you install VLC on a Windows machine, there's a check box to tick for the Mozilla plug-in but on the Mac, all you do is drag the app into the "applications folder." What I've read by visiting a million-and-one forums is, simply installing VLC on a Mac will *not* work. You must install the plug-in. Well, I've googled until I'm googled-out trying to find the plug-in. All I find are old, out-dated plug-ins and when I tried to install it, all it was, was the VLC program (old version).

It's too much of a hassle at this point. I might as well just run Windows in VMware and use Internet Explorer if I want sound. That works for me.

Audio on Mac does work with Firefox 8-)

Initially I had latest versions of VLC, Firefox and "VLC web plugin for Mac" installed (this must be downloaded separately unlike in Windows). However, when I typed about:plugins in Firefox it didn't show VLC plugin and audio of course didn't work.

Anyway just to test, I installed version 3.6.17 of Firefox, version 1.0.5 of VLC (http://download.videolan.org/pub/videolan/vlc/) and version 1.0.5 of the web bowser plugin (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-macosx.html) and now audio works and I can hear when my baby cries ;) .

Not sure if it makes a difference but I read somewhere that web plugin should be installed so that browser windows are all closed and computer rebooted afterwards.

Maybe firefox version is irrevelant but I haven't tested this with 4.x yet.

Hope this helps someone.

Confirm working on Firefox for Mac. Still nothing on Safari. Maybe i'll try dropping the plugin in ~/library instead of root. Only thing i don't like is that audio kills the video on firefox. Silly, since i can stream the feed to VLC or even BuzzPlayer on iphone and get audio+video. Oh well, we'll see. Nice update though, tired of using multiple emails for notifications. good work Foscam people.

If you right click VLC App itself, you can view Package Contents, which will also take you to a Plugin folder....

Not sure WHERE or which plugin to copy/paste into which folder, probably under User>Library>Application Support>FireFox......or Chrome........but........about 50 plugins in that VLC folder.....????
