Notify HTTP on Alarm - missing feature FI9805W

Postby mfp » Tue Aug 13, 2013 3:31 am

Hi,

I have a FI9805W. I Like the camera, but it lacks a feature of HTTP announcing when an alarm is tripped.

The old models have the function set_alarm.cgi. It contains:
http 0:Disable notifying with http visit on alarm;1:enable
http_url http url when visit on alarm

The new models with H264 don't have this function, at least I can not find it in "Foscam IPCamera CGI User Guide-V1.0.4 copy.pdf".

Can you confirm this, or point me to the right setting?

When confirmed, can you please add http announcing in a future Firmware release?

The CGI command "set_alarm.cgi" is for MJ series cameras, not for HD series cameras.

HD series do not have this feature.

I Understand it is not there. Does not sound logical for a higher end and newer camera. Will it be added in a future release?

I have this problem too.

I have an older MJPEG camera and was looking to upgrade to a newer H.264 camera, but inspecting the CGI manual for the newer cameras the motion detection alarm to HTTP is missing.

This HTTP alarm is very useful when you don't want to use FTP or Email, but a simple HTTP GET request to trigger some external activity.

Is there anything equivalent Alarm feature in the newer H.264 cameras? Or is there a plan to add this later?

I'd also like to know if this will be added later. Can anyone from FOSCAM let us know the plan? I just ordered 5 FI9821W cameras and was planning to order significantly more, but will be returning them unless the HTTP on alarm functionality is added.

Is there any plan to remove this feature from the MJPEG CGI SDK?

I am planning to buy a MJPG camera tommorow (FI8910)

But I really need the HTTP on alarm function.

Is it still that with the MJPG camera's, I could use this function?
Does anyone have this experience lately?

Yes. It's still there with the MJPEG based cameras.

I have a free Interface, that when used with an Admin level User Id can easily set/clear this value for MJPEG based cameras. It also supports virtually ALL the possible .cgi commands. Here is a partial photo, of the Interface, when using an Admin User Id, with it.

The Interface can be used with ANY Internet browser capable device. From Computers to Tablets and Phones and TVs which are using ANY Operating System and ANY browser:

httponalarm.png

Note: There are MANY other controls that this interface allows access to, that the standard camera interface, that comes with the cameras, does not support. This allows you to not require a specific script using this or that .cgi command, to set some of these hidden camera features and instead use this Interface, to do what you need and quickly.

No information on IF this feature will ever be added to the H.264 based cameras. However there are methods one can use to poll the current alarm status by using external methods. Which of course, is not the same.

I also have another free interface that demonstrates the use of, external methods, to monitor alarm status, for as many as 10 MJPEG based cameras, at the same time. Allowing you to record BOTH video and audio ("Alarm video recordings normally produced by the camera are video only") which is much less resource intensive then doing the same by using the standard camera interface.

It also allows, on a per camera basis, to define the length of the recorded video and audio to be shorter or longer then the default 60 second alarm window.

If you have a MJPEG camera, that has ALL your other MJPEG cameras defined in its multi-device configuration, in that cameras configuration. Then all you need to do is configure this interface for one camera and then set the use multi-device configuration option, in the Interface configuration, for that camera and ALL your other MJPEG cameras will be automatically added to the Interface.

More here: http://foscam.us/forum/free-mjpeg-ip-camera-record-video-with-audio-on-alarms-t3431.html#p15874

The same concepts, could be used to execute some connection to a HTTP address for H.264 based camera models. Of course, this would require a system/device being present 24/7/365 to do so.

Point being, it's possible to create external methods to do this HTTP notification. That may or may NOT be acceptable to everyone. While waiting for this feature, to be added ("Internally") to H.264 based camera models.

Hi,
I really dont understand why "http request on alarm" feature has been removed for H.264 cameras.

Because I want to use my camera (FI9804w) with my domotic box, not being able to send http message when a motion is detected is realy a problem.
Polling the status of the camera is not a solution, in my opinion.

Can you tell me if this simple feature will be restored on a next firmware as mfp asked 6 month ago ?
Many Thanks
Wil

The H.264 based camera models. Are the first cameras where Foscam actually created the firmware. The MJPEG based cameras and all H.264 based cameras, prior to the FI9821W V1 firmware, was done by a third-party. So, nothing was removed. It was simply not included yet.

No hard facts yet on if this feature will be added. Most likely if enough camera owners ask for it. It will be.

Thank you very much for this explanation. I was not aware that mjpeg camera sw was not home made.

I am sure that with the increasing number of smart objects, being able to push events notifications will be very usefull (maybe there is another solution for that through http requests, I dont know).

Obviously I vote for in a next firmware!

Kind regards
