EMAIL WORKS!!!!!!

firstly:
- as noted, you must 'Submit' before testing. but be careful to watch your browser when you hit Submit -- sometimes, it doesn't do anything (in IE at least). i have to click off to another settings page and come back, make the changes again, and hit 'Submit' again. (you will see a "Waiting for http://... message in your status bar if it actually updates the camera)
- Sender must be your sending email address (in my case, the aol account i am using to send). It cannot be any name per protocol. Turns out, this is a common restriction of many ISPs to prevent SPAM.
note that i have only gotten AOL to work. i have not gotten two other ISPs i use (one being Comcast). again, i *suspect* some sort of SPAM filter is being triggered preventing authentication.
but AOL is free and works so go for it!
...dav
Thanks!!!
It wasn't saving my settings.
I used Firefox instead of IE and it now works.
For the user it required my name and host.

Several e-mail issues
First, I must commend the patience of Foscam's Technical Support people in trying to resolve this problem: setting up the F18918W to send an eMail alert to my iphone. As of today, they are still working on this matter. Steps taken so far include:
The familar "test" e-mail screen always displayed "succeed". Although an e-mail was send to my laptop and IPHONE, an e-mail (or beep) was not sent when the camera detected motion.
I noted some discrepancies in the SW setup. For example: under Device Info: ALARM STATUS displayed NONE. HOWEVER, ALARM SERVICE SETTINGS info was:
I have observed that when the camera detects motion, it will (without any alert on the PC or IPHONE) record an AVI file on the motion detected.
I have also tried the "fixes" suggested by others" -- but no luck so far. I have changed the UPnP setting back and forth to see if that would have any positive results. I have eliminated all eMail accounts (one at a time) to see if that could be an issue. (I always left one eMail accout as the default.) However no luck. I used a suggested gmail account with a port number of 465.
The tech rep from Foscam was able to (at one point) to enable the SETUP screen to show: ALARM STATUS: "on", "activated", "enabled". (It was one of the those words. However, I still was unable to have the iphone receive any eMail alert.
Incidentally, the iphone app I am using is called "Live Apps" downloadable from Itunes for $.99. The setup is easy. Don't make the mistake by downloading "Pro Live Cams". It is not a supported app.
Lastly, I tried several eMail accounts including: gmail, yahoo, roadrunner -- but to no avail.
As I am typing this long message, I am observing that the camera is picking upon on my "motion", and virtually everything I am doing is being recorded in 30 separate files. However, there is no "alert" of any kind.
SO, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS. I HAVEN'T HEARD BACK FROM FOSCAM. THE REP WORKED WITH ME FOR ABOUT 3 HOURS -- AND IS STILL TRYING TO FIND A FIX. AGAIN, I APPLAUD THEIR PATIENCE AND DILIGENCE -- AND I HOPE THAT THEY OR ONE OF YOU GUYS HAVE ADDITIONAL INPUT. THANKS. AND IF YOU OR THEY DO, LUNCH IS ON ME! (LUNCH GIFT CARDS ARE GREAT!)

Re: EMAIL WORKS!!!!!!
I read the post above about getting GMAIL to work and I tried the settings and still no worky. What I did notice is that I'm missing the Authentication transport type field. Is that not in the settings for the FI8904W? Either way thanks in advance for the help. I have GMX working but would love to have gmail working instead.

Re: Several e-mail issues
hey, I had the exactly same issue. Test was always successful, but never received motion alarm emails.
Here's what I tried after two days of researching without an answer, and it worked.
DESELECT "Upload Image on Alarm". Scheduler was left on blank as well.
See if this works for you.

Re: EMAIL WORKS!!!!!!
Hi Guys,
G-Mail does indeed work with the alarm settings in the camera's web interface. Some of the users have pointed out different settings that allow the camera to send pictures to your G-Mail with no problems.
I will summarize how to get this working for G-Mail addresses. Credits go to "mmx" and "krong" for helping our customers out.
In the cameras settings page once you log in, go to Device Management. Click on Mail Service Settings first. For G-Mail the information is as follows:
Sender: Youremail@gmail.com
Receiver 1: Youremail@gmail.com
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 587
Transport Layer Security: STARTTLS
Need Authentication: (Check this box)
SMTP User: Youremail (There is no @gmail.com, only the username)
SMTP Password: Youremailpassword
Report Internet IP by Mail: Unchecked
Push Submit. Please do not push Test, as there have been problems with the mail settings if Test is pushed before Submit.
Now navigate to the Alarm Service Settings tab on the left side of the interface. Put in the following information:
Motion Detect Armed: Checked
Motion Detect Sensibility: 10 (Your preference)
Motion Compensation: Checked
Send Mail on Alarm: Checked
Upload Image on Alarm: Unchecked (Even if this is unchecked, you will still receive images to your G-Mail account, you can test this out once you submit the information)
Scheduler: Unchecked
Push Submit at the bottom of the page and that's it. You can test out your camera's motion detection by waving your hand around in front of it or testing it in some other fashion. An e-mail will be sent to your G-Mail account at the end of the motion detection with images attached to the E-mail as well.
You can try playing with the Motion Detect Sensibility values to see how much motion detection you would actually want to detect. The value of 10 is the highest rate of detection and will cause the camera to send you an alarm at the slightest hint of movement.
Let me know if you have any other issues, I am working on getting this information for other e-mail providers as I know customers have a wide variety of e-mail addresses.

Re: EMAIL WORKS!!!!!!
Hi Scarmi1,
Please don't push test after inputting your e-mail settings. Simply push submit and then you can actually test if the camera records the motion detection manually. Pushing "test" before submit does not register the e-mail settings correctly in the camera. This is why we say to push submit first instead. We are working on getting this fixed in a future firmware upgrade.

Re: EMAIL WORKS!!!!!!
But this is exactly what I did.
I pushed submit and tried, but nothing happened.
Then I try to test, and that error resulted.
In other words: by only clicking on submit , and checking about email, I didn't receive any email....
