New functionality at low cost (FI8918W)

Postby EdekW » Mon Nov 14, 2011 5:59 pm

Hi,
I have FI8918W and I have problem. I have router with HDD. When I mapping this HDD in my PC then I can write avi files. I can write in Users Setting in box Set Record Path or Set AlarmRecord Path for example: z:\Monitoring. Without mapping I can't write in these boxes for example: \\192.168.1.1\volume1\Monitoring. Why this path is wrong. This possibility would increase significantly the functionality of cameras.

yes,you have to mapping the saving device to your pc first.
As currently our cameras only support saving record on your pc which is in the same network with your router, also support some mobile hard disk that can plug into your pc.
If not,you need to mapping the device as a sharing saving path.
However, what you have refered is an significantly functionality,I will forward this to our engineers, will consider to obtain that in the future.

I completely agree with EdekW.
We can buy a cheap NAS, and without having the PC switched on all the times, camera could record directly to NAS, by accessing it with static IP on the same network.

Quite easy, quite fast, quite cheap. With enormous added value.....

I have question: When new software will be available? I would like buy more cameras for monnitoring but I will buy only with new soft with this functionality. This change in software is very easy for good programmer, so I think that time will be quite short. I declare readiness testing new software.

I use cameras of Foscam and I had to put PC to save images. This functionality would be the best. I am very interested too. Cameras would work without a PC, Good Idea.
Quickly write new soft. I also can test it.
Who else is interested let writes.

Another good feature is to have the ability to schedule when camera position presets become active. Similar to lights that come on at dusk and turn off at dawn, as well as automatically adjusting for daylight savings times, it would be great to see a similar functionality embedded into the cameras.

example 1 - camera 1, preset 1 position (front door) from dusk to dawn.

Sometimes we use our camera to check things out, however, we'd always like to default it to a certain position (preset) during certain times.

Also, would like to see a vacation mode option that plays selectable audio files upon motion detection (i.e. dog barking sound, intruder alert, etc.)

Hi,

Late to this party...

I don't understand how it knows which PC to write to if you have multiple PCs on your LAN.

Could it be that the IP of whatever PC ran the IPcamera program is sent to the camera and stored for future reference? If that is the case, could one TELNET or SSH onto the camera O/S and change the IP of the PC to the IP of the router if we had SSH or TELNET available? Or, if we knew what file it was stored in, maybe FTP could be used to modify it.

The web firmware, via a web browser, needs to remain *open* in order to record video onto a computer. In other words, you need to keep your computer on and have a browser window open displaying the web camera. The web camera currently does not push a recorded video file.

Ideally, it would be nice if the video recording supported auto-uploading the video to Network Access Storage, FTP, a networked computer, and/or Drop Box like functionality.
