Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
I'm about to purchase the FI8905W cam and was wondering if the lens on this camera can be replaced with a wide angle lens? If so, what lens would be recommended? I'm looking for one with around 160 degree viewing angle.

Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
Id love to know what the lens specs are ie the size of the threads etc. I bought this camera and it is zoomed in too close for me.
Also, the number of LED is 60 and this floods people at night and anyone within 30 feet are washed out white you can't discern or see anything.
I think the camera is designed for a long range high up shot.
I wish camera companies would give us a live demo of each cam with pics that we can judge which cam is best.

The 8905 is for longrange, but, you can replace the lens with any other type of "CS-mount" lenses.
One important note:
Choose a lens that has the same length (+/- 2.6 - 2.9 cm including the threads).
The lens can be a little bit shorter if you use a 6mm or higher lens, as long as the black round thingy still blocks the ir-light from shining on the lens.
If you use a 4mm or lower ( I use a 3.2mm lens ), the lens has to be as close to the glass as possible, so it is important that the lens isn't shorter, otherwise the black surrounding "thingy" will be visible on your image

I've an 8904W and also replaced the default lens with a 3.2,
but I've the tunnel view and the IR in the picture
.
Any recommendations, which lens to buy?
It would be great to have an url.
Thanks in advance.

Your lens is shorter as the default 12mm lens, therefore the IR-light can pass under the black round light-shield around the lens (fixed on the glass front).
You can fix this by making the black light-shield a little bit longer with tape, so that no IR-light can reflect in the lens.
And because your lens is shorter and the angle is much wider, the corners of the image are black, because that's the black light-shield.
Tip: get a 4mm lens that's a little bit longer.

I have 2 doors to watch. I put the camera on the corner of my house at 4 meters high. First door is on 4 meter and the second door on 22 meters distance.
The angle of 22 degrees of the 8905 with 12 mm is too narrow to watch both doors, but I think I need the 8905 for its light and I think the light of the 8904 is not sufficient to cover the 22 meters.
With a 6 mm lens I have the right 50 degrees angle and it looks that the circle of light can be solved with some tape. I think that an object in front of the first door will be too brightly lighted in the night. This can be solved by covering some of the leds, but then maybe the 8904 is a better alternative.
Maybe I need 2 camera's to secure both doors.
Who can help me to decide?

Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
sry to bump an old thread, I was wondering if anyone tried using a 4mm lens
I was thinking about getting this lens http://cgi.ebay.com/F1-2-4mm-1-3-CS-Mou ... 2a09066bd2 for my FI8905W
What I would like to know is if anyone ran into any problems with the lens picking up the sides of the cylinder?
I am also interested in this if it will fit

At 2+inches long, I can't imagine how it could possibly fit in the FI8905. I'm awaiting a set of six cheap lenses from DX
http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15774
I'm hoping I can widen the viewing angle from the existing 6.0mm lens it came with, so that I can capture a 2 door range on my deck. My real worry is that using the 3.6mm, or 2.8mmI may have to cope with the IR's showing up on the image, but I'll deal with that if it happens.
As an aside, I was quite surprised to get a call from the credit card fraud unit asking if I had made the charge for the purchase at DX. I told them yes, but unfortunately he woke me up, and I didn't have the consciousness at that moment to ask him why he asked. I don't know if that implies there have been problems with DX, or something else. I know DX has a very high store rating at resellerratings.com, so I'm not too worried about it. Interesting, though.

Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
the set of 6 lens will work on the 8904 but not the 8905
I purchased a 4mm lens for my 8905 from dealextreme, been 2 weeks so far, still waiting for it to come in the mail.
When I install it, I will take pictures and post them here.
