Re: Foscam Motion Detect Email Alerts
I was having this problem. Then I thought I would try it without pictures to see if I got the alerts. So I unclicked "upload image on alarm".
And suddenly I started getting the emails with the pictures.
Then I realized that "upload image on alarm" was for FTP, not an option for email (the image is not optional).
I don't have FTP set up at this time, so checking the box was not valid.

I have a MacBook using a Safari web browser. My question is... will alert emails be sent with this system set up when a motion is detected? The test work but only the log is showing the alerts, no emails are being sent. This is such a hassle!

What is your camera model and what versions of firmware are installed. This information can be seen under "Device Info" using your Camera menu.

Thanks Don, believe it or not this thing is now working...setting one of these up is not for an amateur, had to get a tech-type to do this for me.
What is sad is I have no idea what I did to get it to work? Trying to get any type of help out of this company is most of the struggle.

You are very welcome. Glad to help.
Here is one thing you can do to have a readable copy at least, of what the current camera settings are.
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx = Local IP address of the camera.
#### = Port for the camera.
When prompted. Please logon as a Admin User Leve Id for the camera. You can do this with any Browser, besides Chrome.
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:####/get_params.cgi
The above will dump ALL your camera settings, you can then copy that information and save it to a .txt file or word document.

Re: Foscam Motion Detect Email Alerts
So what exactly do we need to setup email alerts when motion is detected?
I'm trying to use my gmail account so I have the following Mail Service Setting fields:
Sender: myaccount@gmail.com
Receiver 1: email address where I want the email sent
SMTP Server: smtp.gmail.com
SMTP Port: 465
Transport Layer Security: TLS
Need Authentication: checked
SMTP User: myaccount@gmail.com
SMTP Password: my gmail account password
When I click on Test I get an invalid parameter!

Please try:

That worked...thanks Don.
One other question: when I set the alarm to 'upload image on alarm' I do get the image in my alarm email notice, but where are these images stored? And can I access them to view/delete?
(I only got 4 images in the one email...is there a limit of 4?)

The camera can send as many a 6 images per Email. It depends how stressed it is. Meaning, if the camera is wireless, and does not have a good wireless connection, you might only be able to get 4 images in an Email.
Also, some models and levels of firmware may only send 4 images. I am not 100 percent positive that all camera models and all levels of firmware for those camera models, support 6 images, per Email.
I can only say that my camera models, with the most current level of firmware, can and do send 6 images, per Email. When those cameras have a wired or good wireless connection.
The Email images are not formally stored anywhere. There is some cache in the camera itself, but the camera is not storing the Email images in any formal folder.
You can enable FTP uploads, and actually store images during an alarm.
You can set the FTP upload rate to as high as 1 image a second during the alarm period.
An alarm period, lasts 60 seconds, 1 minute. This means that with FTP, you can get 60 images in an alarm period. I have both Email and FTP setup for my cameras, so I get the FTP images and the Email during alarms.

Re: Foscam Motion Detect Email Alerts
Hi,
I haven´t place for Transport Layer Security Protocol: STARTLS
in my Mail Service Settings. Why is this missing?
I have another outdoors IP camera (no forscam) and it works with same settings.
