Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
RDB,
Any chance you could post some snaps during day and night? Also after going to the manufactures web site I didn't see that the did public sales. Where did you order yours from?
Thanks

Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
So I took RDB's advice and bought 2 of these lens's
VTL-2820F 2.8mm
VTL-0416F 4.1mm
http://www.vitekcctv.com/Sections.asp?SectionID=1011
After a little tinkering around I was able to figure out how to get it in focus by removing the collar on the inside of the lens so I could screw it in far enough to get it in focus. After that everything looked great in the day. Unfortunately that's not the case in the night. Below I'm showing before after pictures from the after market 4mm lens that I had in the camera now I have the 2.8mm lens in the camera. I really like the difference in the day, but now I need to figure out how to get the night picture working without showing the darn IR LED's in the picture, that is the last image obviously. Any ideas how to fix that?

whoamib,
try adding a diffuser to the ir ring to get rid of that "halo".

Any luck with the diffuser? If so, what brand, model, etc?
Anyone try the Gino 2.88mm lens?
http://www.amazon.com/Gino-2-8mm-Black- ... ef=lh_ni_t
I'm going to try the F18904W to try and capture about 70" of yard/waterfront about 40' away from our lake house. Here's a panorama from Photosynth:

I tried the 905 but the field of view was too constricted (see attached photo)
Any other suggestions?
Thanks, Lou

Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
I was asking the same question today to Foscam.
They told me the lens it comes with is the widest angle you can get??
Believe it is a 6mm, and to be honest it is like looking down a tunnel

Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
The answer to the night halo or ghost ring look from the IR lights reflecting back in is right in the box the lens comes in. You know those dust caps that come on the lens? Take the bigger one and cut a hole in it with a razor knife. The cap is the same diameter OD as the ID of the metal ring on the glass protective cover you screw off. Place the cap with hole in the metal piece on the glass and then install it back on the camera. Focus the lens, then hold the glass in place so it doesn't spin as you tighten the ring down. The plastic cap will turn the focus if you're not careful and let the whole glass/ring piece turn as it tightens down.
No more reflection or annoying ring on night shots.. The problem is the wide angle lens are shorter and there is a gap of 1/32 or so between the ring on the glass cover and the lens body. The IR light reflects back in and makes that halo look.

Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
Hi all,
Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but I have one of the fi8950w with the auto ir cut filter. I bought a 2.8mm lens off flea bay that looked the same as the Vitek one. I have the same problem where I can only focus it by screwing so far that it jams the filter. Has anyone got a lens to work on the fi8905w with ir lens cut without modification? I notice rage cams have finally cottoned onto the problem and offer modified screws with there lenses...
Thanks
Steve

Hello BiggBirdd
I read what you posted
Wwhat you mean by "dust caps that come on the lens? "
you mean CANON EF LENS 77MM or the lens that we use for foscam ?
can you please show me an image of your excellent Idea
Thanks
looking forward for your guidance

Re: Wide Angle lens for FI8905W?
I know this thread is old, but I can't find any more recent. I ordered the same Vitek lens and can not get it to focus. I saw someone said remove the inner ring so you could screw it in to the housing further.
I can not see where/how you remove an inner ring? I am able to fix the halo by using the dust cap method but can't get her to focus good so it's basically pointless.
Thanks!
