Well, I setup my new fi8905w and it's working great. I need a wider angle lens though and I'd like to go to a lens in the range of 2 to 3mm. I like the idea of being able to cut the supports for the IR board to get the lens closer to the glass and understand how to do it. My question has to do with the Aperture of the lens. I currently have the 6mm F1.2 on the camera right now. As far as IR goes, will it hurt to go to a F1.6 or even F2.0 as in this lens: http://www.cctvcamerapros.com/Surveilla ... -2.5mm.htm ? Or would this lens be better: http://www.camera2000.com/en/2-5mm-wide ... 5-deg.html ?

Also, has can anyone recommend a good place to get a lens in a timely manner? I know there have been some mentions along this thread but it's been a few months sine the last post and just wondered if anyone had any recent experiences.

Thanks,
Zaeolos

I just bought one of these for $9.95 for the 8905 I just installed:

I bought it on wednesday and got it on saturday. Overall, the lens is pretty nice.

I had to add a diffuser to eliminate the "halo" from the ir leds, and now it works well.

Another option is monoprice:

I found these after I bought the ebay lens. If I add another 8905 to our system, I'll definitely get a 4mm lens for it from monoprice. imo, the 6mm lens is pretty useless.

I also bought a new mount for to replace the worthless original one from monoprice:

This mount is really sturdy. I think I could hang from it. :D

Very good camera mounts I hang all my cam's off them.
You will need to make a adapter to bolt them up with the 04 or 05'3
mounting holes do not line up.

Yeah, I found that out. the back hole on the bracket lined up with one of the holes on the camera. I carefully drilled a new mounting hole on the bottom the camera for the front hole.

One screw is probably sufficient, but I didn't want the camera to be able to twist on the mount.

Thanks derelicte, I just ordered the 4mm from MonoPrice. I know the lens is going to be shorter, but I was thinking of cutting the supports to bring the lens closer to the glass. Has anyone been able to find replacement supports that can be used?

have not found replacements

I have been thinking of finding a way to use either some plastic salvaged from some old toys, or sticks of glue (used for hot glue guns), but never really followed through with it.

I instead took a small strip of paper, wrapped it around the barrel, then used a little bit of tape to hold it in place, this prevented ir light from spilling in. (I then stopped using the ir light all together since I live in the city and the street lights provide enough light (the ir lights in the camera are not very wide angle. when used outdoors, you just get a small circle of light in the center of the image)

I don't remember if the lens tube was long enough to still shield the 4mm lens I bought. I think it was.

you will probably have to do something to diffuse the ir leds, though otherwise you will get a white ring in the picture.
