aaAAHHH HAAA ! SUCCESSS !

OK... I took it apart again. On the CCD board is a black square diod. When mounting the IR shutter after making the spacer / IR mount thinner, the thick part of the shutter now sat on the diod and that is what kept me from getting the focal point needed. I unscrewed the CCD board from the spacer / mount assembley and turned it 180 degrees and screwed back in place. Everything now sat flat like it was supposed to and gave me my focal point with the 2.8mm and 4mm lens. Once that was done I now had to get the lens through the IR ring. Had to shorten a long screw and file the head very flat, but usable to fit it through. The CS mount wont fit through the hole and provides a very nice stop. The CCD and lens assembly is held onto the IR ring with VERY small zip ties put through the holes on opposite corners. Holds nicely. I still have to diffuse the IR lights though as I do have a spot issue even though it wasn't too bad.

I purchased my Foscam 8905W on May 26th. I has a 12mm lens. I want to replace it with a 6mm but have yet to do so.

However, i do agree with you the 12mm is a bit overkill for any type of monitoring within 40 feet. But for an office building mounted 10 stories up it might be great! :)

I bought a 2.8mm lense for this camera on ebay. The 4mm just didnt show enough of the area i wanted to cover. i have the camera mounted high up on an eve but wanted it to cover my entire driveway and two garage doors. I was successful. Even thought the 2.8 lense was over half as long as the 12mm lense i removed.
original 12mm on right 2.8 on left

The problem with a short lense is your lense will "see" the outter black ring on the glass and give you a black ring when viewing the camera and cutout alot of your wide area.
Remove the top shroud and unscrew the front ring and remove the glass. take out the 3 small screw holding the leds in the housing and you will see.

See where my screw driver is pointed and the brass standoffs? Thats what sets where your lenses sets.
Unscrew the standoffs and take two of them and cut them in half with a dremel.

So now you have two long ones and two short ones. store the long ones somewhere just in case you need them.
Now attach the 4 short ones where the long ones were by using the threaded end and screws.

Install the LED ring by putting a dob of hotglue on top of each of the brass posts.
NOTE: since you cut the brass studs in half there is only threads on one side of each "post" i used the threads side to screw to the lense housing. i didnt have a way to thread the other end. hotglue will hold it and make it removable. feel free to come up with some other way to attach it.

Install the glass back again and bam.

2.8mm lense all the way up near the glass. no rings in your view and nice thing is you can use one of the 3$ CCTV lenses or a wide angle lense no problem and you dont have to worry about finding a long lense.
This all depends on how much 30minutes of your time is worth of course.

Killraven,

What is the 2.8mm lens you used? Can you link me one?
I'm going to get it and perform the mods you posted.

Anyone able to help me identify that lens?

Hello...sorry for the delay..have a lot going on.

I got mine off of eBay from seller homam. Item title is: Ricom Fisheye 2.8MM CS Mount Fixed-Iris Lens.

Had to do lots of modifications to the IR shutter to make it work. Also
it isn't an IR lens so the night time focus is poor if you focus it for daytime
use. I have not found a 2.8mm IR lens as of yet.

I will be doing the same to another cam and will try to better document
what is done to make it work.

Anyone found a 2.8mm IR lens ?

Hello,
I bought a FI8905W camera
I tried to open the objectif lens and infortunely all the composants shut down (lens and other plastics composants).I tried to remounting the differents composants, but i don't remenber the assembly order and the mounting direction of each plastics parts.
Now I have'nt any image on my browser.

My question is: perhaps you have a schema of assembly or an web address where is possible to find this schema.
Sorry for my bad english
Bests regards
Daniel
