  1. Decent starter cam Review by Michael

I have one FI8910W and two FI9821W V2. The FI8910W does not see as well in low light as the FI9821W. The field of view is slightly wider in the FI8910W. You can only get the camera name and OSD to stream on the FI8910W if you are viewing it on the embedded webserver. There is no slot to record on a SD card on the FI8910W. The FI8910W has a more stable WiFi connection than the FI9821W V2 which drops out all the time.
You have to make sure you configure it properly in the camera, your router, and if needed your device from the cable company.
Personally I like the FI9821W V2 better for image quality, and compression, but the FI8910W has a better WiFi adapter in it. (Posted on 12/31/14)

  2. Decent Quality, Nice Design, Great Features, Terrible Setup, Lousy Software Review by IMRAN

The title really says it all. Decent Quality, Nice Design, Great Features, Terrible Setup, Lousy Software. The installer CD version and even the downloaded version of the software for Windows did not detect the camera even connected with an Ethernet cable. I was able to detect it with the Mac version of the software (which has a creation date of mid 2012 or so!). The Windows software THEN saw the camera. I had to download the firmware update that I did from the Windows browser, which worked. I tested seeing the video on the Mac because my Windows security settings kept me from installing the Unknown Publisher software. I then disconnected the camera from power and Ethernet, and after a few minutes connected it to power to see if it would work on WiFI which I had programmed and verified in the settings through the browser. But, alas, now the camera is not found and I get a timeout. Very frustrating user experience for what does look like a fairly well designed package with decent video quality and smooth tilt and pan, at a good price. (Posted on 12/13/14)

  4. It is a great price/camera if you use it for the right cause! Review by Cat

I have 4 of these cameras. This camera should not be used as a security camera if you can afford something better! It is a fantastic indoor camera if you have a small child or an elderly person that you must watch to make sure they haven’t falling and can’t get up.

The picture is not good enough for a good ID of a person. If you had to pick out someone in a line up it would be impossible if two or more people were close to the same weight and height. It is a great price if you use it for the right cause!

If you cannot afford any other kind of camera and you are in dire need for security: then you can use this to help improve your security some. This camera can be set up to send you an e-mail as soon as it detects motion. Just have the cameras inside of your house/apartment facing the doors and windows. That way as soon as you get an e-mail of a person breaking into your house you can call the neighbors and your local police department.

Also, I agree with the other reviews, it is hard to set up, but if you call the tech help they will help you. They have an excellent tech support! (Posted on 5/10/14)

  5. Quality product, good support Review by Korlin

Great product , the on-the-phone support is adequate, you can tell they are rushed to get off the phone. If your clueless, ask the support team to take control of your computer remotely and they will finish installation quick and properly (Posted on 5/6/14)

  10. Pro Company Pro Product A+++ Review by ltdan

I don't join forums too often or leave feedback on a product, but had to with this ip camera. I left a post on the forum for Linux/DD-WRT router installation, hidden essid blah blah. Took couple days noodling and avoiding the manual, but got it up solid WAN/LAN. If you have pets/kids/valuables etc. this company/forum/products is the way to go. I understand Linux isn't always "supported" with browsers/plugins so if you are on Windows just folow the guide/forum. My next cam I will buy direct from Foscam, that's how happy I am with their product/service. They have a biz account with Teamviewer, which says a lot. That way if you run into trouble just chat/call and they can be in, save you time/energy and be out asap. I'm not a "trusting" kind of guy, I trust Foscam. (Posted on 2/23/14)

  11. set up for remote use outside network Review by John

Setting it up and setting it up wirelessly was easy and using it from inside my network was very easy! Easy instructions for doing that. My biggest problem was getting remote access so I can view away from home. I was so confused about fixed ips and dnsdynamic and getting into my router and changing the settings. Had no clue! I'm not a computer guy. So after about 5 hours of reading forums and watching lots of youtube vids I finally called Foscam. Got to say they had it up in running after only 5 min. I did give them remote access to my computer and watched everything she was doing on my computer. Amy Lopez help me with my problem. Got the foscam pro app for iphone 5s and seems to be working very nice. Guess the new foscams have there own dnsd# so I didn't have to sign up for an account or download I will be order another camera asap. Thanks Amy Lopez for your help and explaining how it all works. YOU ROCK! Not sure why there is negative comments on there customer service. Maybe the customers where just frustrated they where having problems. Which I could understand!! (Posted on 2/23/14)

  12. Great little camera Review by RCO

Have several of these cameras, one is in a upstairs unheated garage window where conditions are hot in summer and cold in winter. The camera has always worked well. Set-up was easy, after I found our ISP was some blocking ports. Overall very happy with this camera. it is a great deal for the cost. (Posted on 2/23/14)

  13. Great Camera Review by michacavan

  14. Thank God for Screen Share Review by Missy

I bought this for very basic need of watching when my landlord comes into my apartment without telling me (he's supposed to) and also monitoring my house while away. I was able to set it up to my own network easily but had trouble setting it up for wireless and remote access. I tried for a few days and decided it was time for tech support. Called them and the guy was great. He did it through screen share and it was quick and painless. It was a lot easier than if I had received instructions over the phone. I recommend letting them just do it for you. This was great! (Posted on 1/19/14)

  19. Excellent Tech Support Review by JMD

Sarah Johnson did an outstanding job for me. She was patient and very helpful. It took some time to get the configuration correct because of the way I connected the routers and the PC, but eventually she got us there. We are now wireless. The camera, although I just bought it this week, appears to be a good camera. The images so far are excellent, and I got the Standard camera, meaning not the HD. I will be getting an HD camera next if this works as well as I think it will.
Again, many thanks to Sarah for her help and patience. Happy Holidays to everyone. (Posted on 12/20/13)

  20. Great product; great tech support Review by Mandy

I bought this camera from Groupon over a year ago, and have never gotten around to setting it up until recently. I've called tech support twice and both times they've been incredibly helpful and patient. For me, it's the customer service that makes a company; they're definitely tops in my book! (Posted on 12/19/13)

  22. Really good buy for the price!! Review by Jimmy

Relatively easy once I figured out the first camera. Took about an hour to set up the first camera completely to the point of wireless remote access and recording (Make sure to change password, very accessible to outside if they have just a bit of info). Am accessing my camera and controlling through my mobile phone with no problems. Camera wireless range is not as inpressive as you would think. I will be converting to POE soon. Wireless is better suited for intermitent monitoring situations. I can only get about 20' of consistent connectivity WITH line of sight. Otherwise, the camera is not a bad buy. I am fairly versed in networking, and I feel that an attempt at DIYing with no networking experience may be a challenge to get fully setup with remote access.
    Price - Great
    Quality - Good
    Ease of set-up - Good
    Ease of use - Great
Overall - Good (Posted on 12/9/13)

  23. Great experience Review by atari

IE is slightly faster than FF
Setup is relatively easy, forums full of troubleshooting comments
If you're already on your own networks wifi, use the ip number link to connect to your webcam, not the world wide web remote connect web address, it'll be faster
Bear in mind you don't have other devices using the same IP as your camera's.
If so, you'll need to reassign a new IP to your camera through camera configuration
Lag is around 2 seconds for audio, acceptable delay. (Posted on 11/12/13)

  24. Price little over and slow speed Review by Charles

It lags, weird noises come from the speaker, it shows no evidence of the sun and that all leads up to the price being too high. (Posted on 9/2/13)

  25. Awesome Cam but... Review by JR

Cam works with every network connection except if you setup your wifi as a hidden SSID with no key, the cam wouldn't communicate. Perhaps i need a firmware downgrade?

Otherwise quality and price are top notch! (Posted on 8/29/13)

  26. great ip cam but... Review by KrazyKat

setting the cam is easy on the ethernet and wireless but when setting up for access from outside my network it was horrible. instructions are just useless. yes i do have a fixed ip and set up my port forwarding correctly. i have a lower quality cam set up in my shop and the setup was no where near the headache foscam gives (Posted on 8/24/13)

  27. Better picture quality;better software Review by Joe

I took off a star because of two things: One the picture quality had too many pixels. But that could also be because the camera kept reverting back to it's default of 320X240 instead of staying at 640X480! I exit, come back and it reverts back- even when setting the Preset then Set at different numbers clicking Go or Set, reverts iy back! Recording in *.AVI format kills hard drive space quickly! Why Foscam Viewer Lite for Android? Is there a full version that should be included with the unit to begin with? Please, straighten out these issues, set up was easy, some of the software is buggy and an update is truly needed- until then, another star just came off... (Posted on 8/10/13)

  28. Great Product Review by JIGILS

I have two of these and while they are indoor camera, I have had them installed outside under the eaves of my house for over a year, through all types of weather. I use BlueIris on the desktop and TinyCam Pro on my Android phone to monitor my home from anywhere I'm at. (Posted on 8/7/13)

  29. I bought 2 Foscam F8910W 2 Packs Review by BCS

I bought cameras and have had running since Sept 13, 2012 non stop. Were tough to set up since I have a Range Extender, and had some issues, I was using Suportrix, since I had got a 6 issue plan from Supportrix, recommended by Linksys, with early Verizion Range Extenders. Verizon did not give out all needed ports, linksys would not touch and Supportrix fixed it. If I had it to do over again I would pay Foscam to install one if you are tech savy, but not geeky soo. Once you get DNS set-up, at time I bought 5 year plan 90 bucks and a few security glitches and a rotten egg CSR at Foscam that they took care of, cameras do exactly what I wanted. To be able to pull up on iPhone easy from anywhere Verizon has coverage, and easily seen what's going on. Even used one outside under awing durning winter. I have the Blue Iris, but other than putting cameras on have not set up for all features. In garage sometimes it reboots, think because of summer heat. Speaker is not loud enough unless in quite room. Turn complete darkness to day not color but great. Colors are bright and crisp. Using Windows 7 64 bit and linksys E3000 router. Waiting for outdoor Pan/tilt Wirless with Zoom and a good loud speaker and audio. Just a matter of time. Theses F8910w are the ones to get, save yourself headache and have Foscam at least set-up on and pay attention. If not computer skills with router, and port forwarding and no time to learn let them set up. Tried all the different
Camera Apps for Iphone 4 and still like Foscam's software the best. (Posted on 7/17/13)

  30. Nice Cameras! Review by RSM61

I bought one of these and was so impressed I bought two more. The Pan/Tilt feature is great. The digital zoom (on some software) is ok. I tried one of the 9821's, but I couldn't see anything inside my house unless all the window shades were open AND the lights were on, which kind of defeats the purpose of security. That one went back right away. If they can make webcams, video cameras, digital cameras, etc., that record in HD in low light Foscam should be able to do it. So far though, These Cams are the only ones that have worked for me indoors (of the Pan Tilt variety). I have been having a problem though with all three of them and apparently it's not just me. Tech support has, either not been able to fix it, or doesn't care, but at least once a day sometimes more, the cameras will reboot. Now what that does is sets off my motion detection alarm and turns the ir lights back on. Two of these cameras are mounted inside windows and the ir lights have to stay off at night so the reflection doesn't wash out the picture. They are running the most current firmware, and they do this at different times of the day/night so I know it's not a home powerline interruption. I do like these camers a lot, it's just that one amazingly inconvienient issue that I wish they could fix.

They DO have good wireless range though. I have one mounted in a detached garage 75 feet from my house. The signal has to go through my house, then through the metal garage door and steel entry door that face my house. I did add a 9dbi antenna, but I have a good connection with no drops.

I have another thing to say about ALL Foscam cameras in general, and other ip cams. The wireless bandwidth they consume is horrendous. The specs say they use 54Mbps MAX. I ran some tests on my system and found that each camera was gobbling up 5MB of bandwidth! I called Foscam about this issue and they had no explination for this either. I have 9 cameras. Once I connected enough cameras to eat all of my available bandwidth, the framerate started going down with each additional cam introduced. THEN, When I tried to download a file, watch a movie on Netflix, etc., I had problems due to the cams consuming the majority of the bandwidth. I ended up hardwiring most of my Cameras, with only two left that are wireless which are the ones in and on my garage. So, if you just have a few cams you probably won't notice this. But if you have 7 or 8, or more, then you might have problems. (Posted on 7/12/13)

  31. a worthwhile product Review by jwc

I installed one FI8910W indoors covering two windows and three doors. It took ten minutes to get the first pictures, and another couple of hours to configure. The videos under SUPPORT and the user guide were enough for me to get the camera functioning. So far it has performed just as advertised. My next camera will be outdoor. I'm trying to decide whether it will be fixed or move-able, and I'll be interested to see how a multi camera setup performs. All in all, a good value, particularly if you have any network skills. (Posted on 7/10/13)

  32. Great Camera with one Exception Review by horsekeeper

The FI8910 was my first choice and it was the best choice. I recevied an email for the special sale and opted to buy the BLUE IRIS Software with the actual CD, and what I got the download instead. I found that to be misleading and misrepresented by Foscam. I called them and they told me that to send the CD would be an additional $5.00. When you receive or check the options you may want with the camera, it's best to call them an ask them what you will be getting as far as software because they don't tell you. The camera is great and I would recommend it. (Posted on 7/4/13)

  33. Camera quality is OK Review by Kisan

Camera could not catch if the object move very fast. (Posted on 6/30/13)

  34. Good picture & easy to setup Review by MartinM

Really impressed with the FI8910W. Plenty of set up options for the geek, but simple for us humans. Just picks up an IP address from your DHCP server (router, or whatever) and it's done - just point (any) browser at it. Lots of other options for preset P&T positions, picture brightness contrast, etc. All the network options you can wish for. Easy access from "out there" with port forwarding (in your router), and simple 3 level security to restrict functions. Great IR range for operation with the lights off. All for 70 quid!
Maybe add an option to walk through the presets - to allow a custom scan pattern to be programmed -but now I'm being really finicky. (Posted on 6/24/13)

Overall the camera is great. However the internal software lease much to be desired. Also there is no SSL support, so there is a possible security vulnerability if you plan to access your cam across the internet. (Posted on 4/4/13)

  40. Great Product Review by Hillbilly

I ordered three of these cameras, and after getting my router setup correctly am able to view and control them anywhere there is an internet connection.

The quality of picture is great, and the cameras appear to be made well. I have had them "reset" from time to time, but I believe the issue to be the router, not the camera. (Posted on 1/14/13)

  42. First Impressions on first IP Camera - Awesomeness Review by Perry

I bought my first foscam IP camera via Groupon. Setup was easy though I have to read forums on accessing IP cam thru the internet. Finally I stumbled on how to test your IP cam by using a different network because you cannot view your external IP from within your network. Used my iPhone and voila, I was able to finally view and control my IPCam. Very happy I ordered 4 more right away. (Posted on 12/4/12)

  45. Good product Review by Paul C

I have had my 8910w for more than a year, it still works, provides noise free movement and has been on Linksys and Netgear routers, no problems. I would also like to see SSL support. Overall, it works well, no optical zoom but in this price range, can't find a ptz camera with optical zoom from a reputable company. Its a little over-whelming to setup if your not a technical user, but, from my experience, its nothing your neighborhood geek couldn't help you setup and well worth it. I never it to work on my wireless using MAC filtering, though, I must admit, I believe the instuctions said that may be an issue. I know use WPA and it works fine. 2 issues that have prevented me from purchasing more of these...1-MS IE will not connect through a firewall to this device over port 80 (Standard 'web' port). However, Firedfox will. Not sure why, seems the IE version tries to open more ports, thats a no-no for a web product. 2-Because I have to use Firefox, in order to get sound I have to install a 3rd party app/plugin from While its free, it doesn't work as well as the IE version. One other thing, the talk back is terrible, at least through Firefox, which (See previous statements) is all I can use from behind the corp firewall. That all said, for the typical user looking to check in on the kids, ederly, etc, this is a GREAT, relatively inexpensive solution. Some bugs to be ironed out, but, still, reliable. i like everything about this cam. it is quiet. ir works great. only con is the sound/audio. listening to the audio, their is a constant static noise that skips or "sparks" every few seconds. that is annoying. and trying to talk through the speaker on the camera is a joke. i have to yell just for a small whisper type sound to omitt from the thing (Posted on 9/10/12)

  50. Their Best Camera Review by GEORGE

I thought I would post a review for the staff to read at Foscam. This camera is probably the best camera they make. Has a decent user interface / Its lacking a few features - Such as Date Stamp on the Video Image itself. There are lots of Great iPhone apps for this camera. It can pan in 8 directions. The quality at 640x480 is not bad, BUT could use an upgrade. I tried their 720p camera but it is using a OLD outdated menu system from the 86**** series Cameras. So I will not be purchasing another one of those. This camera however IMO is their FLAGSHIP product. It is priced at a reasonable level. Works, and does exactly what it suppose to do. I own over 10+ of these cameras and have them mounted all over my house. If anyone was to ask which WIFI camera I would buy, it would be this camera. STAY AWAY FROM THEIR NEW FOSCAM FI9820W 720p, It sucks! I posted a review in that section to read, But it is a collaberation of OLD TECHNOLOGY and NEW and its PAINFULLY RETARDED to USE! (Posted on 8/17/12)

  51. Nice camera, almost useless wifi Review by steve

I purchased a 2 pack of these cameras. I am satisfied with the picture and features in this price range. However, the wifi range is a huge disappointment. I tried old routers, new routers, G, N, regular antennas, included 9db antennas, inside, outside, direct outdoor line of sight and have been lucky to erratically have the cameras work at more than about 60 feet from a new ASUS RT-n56u router. Inside range through wooden walls is about 30 ft. I am in a rural area with NO wifi anywhere near. Both cameras act the same. My old iBook shows g signal levels of 50-80 % at the same spots I tried the cameras. I have used wireless routers and accessories for years. The conclusion? Worthless wifi signal. Unless you are using wired or 20 feet from your router, I cannot reccommend these cameras. (Posted on 8/10/12)

  52. Amazing product Review by Gene

I bought one a week ago and I am amazed by the quality. Setup took between 30 and 60 minutes and was very easy. It would have been faster, but I took my time playing around with different configurations. The range is great. It picks up wifi without any issues anywhere in my house. I have my router on the first floor, and can even use the cam on the second floor. The built in monitoring software is fantastic. I also purchased tinyCam (3rd party) and installed it on my phone and tablet. All camera functionality works great with it, including sound and two-way communication. I'm so happy with it, that I just purchased another one. The Back to School discount makes it an even sweeter deal.

    Some tips
    1) Anyone that says it has poor range, needs to upgrade their router. The receiver on the cam is fantastic, so if you have bad range you probably need to ugprade your 10 year old router.
    2) Setting up the public DNS routing is not complex and does not require advanced knowledge of the technology involved. Try reading some instructions, intead of calling this a useless product. If you don't understand how networking works between public and private networks, that is not this company's fault. They have provided all the info you need to get you setup to access the cam through the internet.
    3) Don't blame Foscam if the company you work at blocks the port you are using to view the cam on. Does your boss know you're doing personal stuff during working hours and trying to break your comnpany's security policies?
    4) Pan/Tilt as well as all other functions work great on mobile devices. I tested on Android and iOS. If it's not working for you, you must be doing something wrong.

Bottom line is this device works exactly as designed and advertised. Nothing more, nothing less. You can fill the gap between turning it on and accessing it over the internet by learning to read. (Posted on 8/6/12)

  53. Great Product for Price - Just One Thing Missing Review by Paul

My technical knowledge is fairly good regarding routers, IP addresses, etc., so setup on this was fairly straightforward for me, but it might be a bit overwhelming to people who aren't tech savvy.

I was pretty impressed with how much technology I got for the price. I'm able to access the camera anywhere over the internet, and that includes my Windows laptop, as well as my Android phone and my Kindle Fire (using a free app).

There is only one thing that I would like to see.....and that is the ability to access the camera using https instead of just http. My camera is used to monitor an elderly relative, and sometimes she can be seen partially undressed. Makes me uncomfortable not having https for sending account and password over the internet. Would have given 5 stars if it had https. (Posted on 7/30/12)

  55. Very frustrated Review by MT

Got 3 cameras. The instructions are useless. Don't relate to the steps that need to be taken. Had to call helpdesk - Not available until 4pm UK time as they are in USA!! When it did get working the problem is with accessing from an external ip through Ipad you cannot pan/tilt. You need to download ipad software at a cost. What's the bloody point then. Can't even access the pictures from my office PC because external ip port is blocked. So I've got several Foscam units and I can't use them :((.

Maybe if there was a hosting website that might have done the trick. But the camera's are useless as I can't view from my workplace. Asked foscam support if there is a way around and they didn't know. I don't want to have to take in a spare personal laptop or ipad everywhere I go. Doesn't work on blackberry as I get blank screen.

    So problems are:
    i) Can't view pages from work using assigned ip address and port as most companies will block ports. Big drawback!

ii) From ipad can't pan/tilt. Thanks a lot Foscam. Surely you knew this bug when you sold me the units. Additional ipad software (costs more) may do the trick but I shouldn't need to purchase more software just to get it working.

iii) Can't view thru blackerry, using external ip get blank screen.

Very obvious drawbacks Foscam should have addressed. Hundreds of $$$ spent and it doesn't do what it is supposed to do:((( (Posted on 7/25/12)

  56. Newbie Review by Math2

This is my first experience with IP cameras, and I am VERY pleased. I purchased a twin pack from Foscam directly, and got free customer service. There was about a 20 minute phone wait, but after about 30 additional minutes both of my cameras were set up! In addition, the tech, Calvin, assisted me in setting up my iPad & iPhone with the Foscam APPs.
Looking over the forums, I was able to set up the email alarm after signing up for a gmx email account (that seemed to be the easiest).
We have never had security issues, but now I can remotely monitor my property when we are not at home.
I would love one of these for monitoring the back yard. (Posted on 7/23/12)

  58. Incredible Value!!!! Review by Inventory Manager

I'm not an expert in IP webcams, as my only hands on experience is with Toshiba ($500) and D-Link ($200) models. But based on that experience this is by far the best value for the cost. Initially I had some challenges with configuring for wireless use in a corporate environment (802.11b/g/n WPA2 AES with special characters). The biggest challenge was just finding it (unable to use the camera finder in Windows 7 for some reason), but was able to ping-sweep with Angry IP Scanner to find IP's without Hostnames and open port 80. Opened up in browser and got to work. Found the steps that worked for me was to configure the wireless settings ONLY. Reboot. Then configure the Ethernet static IP address settings. Reboot and unplug Ethernet cable. Watch the green Ethernet LED go from slow intermittent blinking quick blinking as an indicator that it's connected to the wireless LAN. Then open a browser and connect to the new IP address... VOILA!!!! As far as quality, there is some distortion or curvature on the very edges of the visual field of view, but it's not noticeable in most cases - only if you have a straight object like pole, or house, or something in that exact spot... and even then it's slight. Color reproduction is much improved from the FI8918W model, and in my opinion the clarity is also improved slightly. The biggest improvement is definitely with the audio - both the microphone and the speaker. The work great with the FI8910W now. Granted the speaker is not very loud, but it's fine for small and relatively quiet areas like around the house. In an industrial environment (where I'm using it) the speaker is pretty much not usable. But the microphone is just fine. No issues whatsoever with the wireless capability either - seems to work just is well in areas where I have low signal quality (as viewed from my laptop) as it does right next to the wireless access point. Pan and tilt is also great - much more range than what I've had with D-Link and Toshiba models - movement is fairly quick too. Can't recommend this device highly enough. Again, for the cost and features it's a great value. (Posted on 7/13/12)

  59. Plays well with Linux Review by Maine_Guy

Linux users need to know that the included CD is only for obtaining the cam IP address so it doesn't matter that it's only for Mac and MS. Just connect it to your router with a cable and get the IP address from your router dhcp client list. Point your browser to that IP and do the cam setup. Set a fixed IP and then go wireless. No drivers necessary. Really plug and play. Snapshots are available at camaddress/snapshot.cgi or stream with camaddress/videostream.cgi. Highly recommended. (Posted on 7/6/12)

  72. Great when it works! Foscam customer service is excellent Review by TERRY BUFFINGTON

I have to admit I love this camera. I also have to admit it drives me crazy at times as well. Basic set up was very easy. Setting up to remote view took an hour on the phone with customer service, Anzen was very patient and extremely helpful. I love being able to Monitor my dogs in their room whenever and wherever I am. BUT the camera resets itself A LOT, now I don't know if it's my wireless setup or not but it's a real pain to keep working when I have to fiddle with the IP string all the time and even sometimes unplug the camera and replug it back in to get it working again but as I said it might be my wireless signal, which I am in the process of oomphing up and hopefully that will solve the resetting issue. The camera image is very clear and I like being able to remotely move the camera angle and even have some sound. All in all I would buy the camera again I just wish the system were more stable and didn't take constant fiddling to keep it working. (Posted on 6/16/12)

I received my foscam from amazon approximately 5 days ago and was eager to set it up. I do not have the computer technical ability that I once had so I needed to get in touch with their technical support. I called a few times and always was transferred to sales because tech support was busy. The guys at sales took my information and forwarded it to the tech department. When tech called me I was away from my home and figured great now I will have to work again to get back to tech support later, but no, the gentleman named Ricky set a time up with me that was convenient for me and got back with me at that time to set up the camera for email and remote viewing. He was courteous and professional and I could not have asked for a better customer service experience, thanks Foscam. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  95. First Impression, Super Tech Support Review by Jack

The FOSCM 8810 is, indeed, impressive. There are two important "lessons learned" that could be construed as "implied tasks."

    1. Before ordering the product, make sure that RFC-1483 Bridged Ethernet is NOT being used. If so, contact your local internet provider for either a static IP or a work-around. If you're RFC-1483 bridging to your ISP, then your cam will never be seen from the outside.

    2. Know that you won't see your camera from the "outside," from within your own LAN. Use a 3G/4G smartphone or friend on another network to view it for testing.

Many thanks to Mr. Smith at FOSCAM Houston Tech Support, for highly professional and detailed advice and assistance with some last minute troubleshooting.
His advice saved me hours of additional work vis a vis my network.

Yes, I will order another 8810.

  97. Perfect for using as a Baby Monitor Review by dketchel1

I tried the D-link before this due to the D-link being Wireless-N compatible and the Foscam being only Wireless-G. Using this as a Baby monitor I was worried about video lag. Turned out the D-link had a severe lag when using the d-link app and seemed very buggy so I got the foscam. Lag is very little ( same as any baby monitor 1-2 sec) and it has pan and tilt which comes in handy. Very happy with this product.

Wish I would of gotten this one when my son was born instead of a Baby Monitor that was overpriced just because it was labeled a baby monitor. Much better picture quality and features for the price. (Posted on 6/16/12)

Best purchase of the year so far! I moved home to Iowa after getting out of the Army to give birth to my son, but his father is still stationed in New York, so with this in the baby's room he can peek in any time he wants. :) Great quality, even at night. If I had more money, I'd buy more to put up through the house for when baby isn't sleeping in his bed. I HIGHLY recommend this product! (Posted on 6/16/12)

  101. Outstanding techical and customer support Review by Ralph Shoemaker

I've been in IT and dealt with tech companies large and small for over 40 years. My experience with the FOSCAM team both in technical support and customer service is the best I've ever experienced.
The technical staff have the online remote tools and knowledge to fix problems quickly and they do. Alice was very knowlegable and a pleasure to work with. Can't say I've experienced that before in tech support even having been one myself.
When a camera return and replacement was needed Mona in customer support made an extra effort to ensure the camera sent out was working perfectly.
Don't have any complaints with the FOSCAM team and that's rare.
Needless to say I'll be buying additional cameras here.

  102. Our First Security Camera Review by Ball P. Penn

he first thing I figured out was that I needed to print out the manual that comes on the CD. The quick install pamphlet is good, but limited. You do need both to install the camera.

One thing that they tell you to do is go to [...] and get a free domain name to use when you connect remotely. The problem is that company doesn't provide free domain names. The other options for domain names given in a list they provide in the software seem to be non-existent. At least I think that's what they're telling me... It's confusing and poorly explained.

I'm currently connecting with the IP address, and it has worked from a location outside my internal network. I'm going to try using our domain supplied by Microsoft for our Windows Home Server. [...]. If it works, I'm set. If not, I'm looking for a place to get one. I'm not overly interested in purchasing a domain name just for the cameras. Of course if the IP address works consistently I don't have to.

Their port forwarding screen and explanation are confusing, but it's port forwarding so what would anyone expect? I still don't understand why every explanation I find regarding this task confuses it more than necessary.

As for the camera itself, I am very impressed. The pan and tilt range is excellent, the resolution is clear at 640x480, the color is crisp, and you can adjust the brightness and contrast. I think it has the ability to save settings based on what you choose, but I haven't tested that yet. Infrared is automatic when the light level gets low and is a clear image.

It will email alerts (it can be turned on and off easily) and I have set up and tested this feature. It works well within limits, but I can't get it to successfully send a message to my wife's Gmail account even though it sends one to mine. This feature needs a better explanation in the documentation. It attaches six snapshots to the email, and you can get a bunch of emails with constant movement! I know this because I forgot to turn it off once after testing. Oops! The picture quality in the email is excellent. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  103. Great wired, forget wireless option Review by dvincy1 "dvincy"

Bought this F18910W camera for wireless use. Overlooked the numerous online feedback on wifi issues. Found out the hard way that wifi is very problematic. Initially connected the camera via wifi but after disconnecting it for relocation, the camera refuses to connect via wifi. A very tech savvy person with solid network background, I have tried every single option both on the camera and via multiple routers and my experience is the same as most others online. After 4 days of trying to connect via wifi, I gave up and ran a wire to the camera instead. The wired connection works and despite my woes with wifi, this camera, once it holds up, is a good buy compared to many other options out there. I'm not a fan of CMOS cameras but this one looks just as great as my CCD ones. Downloaded FoscamPro for iphone and everything works generally well except for an occasional audio distortion. Overall, I'm happy with this camera for the build, features, and functionality at such a low cost despite the wifi issues. If you are looking for a wifi camera, forget this one, otherwise it is a great deal as a wired camera. One last note, there are many imitation cameras looking the same but mine was from Foscam. 104. Colors are really good Review by Auggie

I bought previous versions of the Foscam cameras and this is by far the best one I've gotten from them. The IR cutoff filter does make a huge difference in the color quality. The wide angle lens makes it a lot easier to monitor objects from a closer distance and full room views.
Awesome camera update. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  105. Great Camera Review by jswetland

This Camera has stunning video. Images look just like you were there. I bought three of these and they easily connected to my network. Installation on a Apple Mac was simple. I use these with the iCam app. When any motion is detected, I immediately receive a text message and can view the cameras on my iPhone and the saved data which is sent to my Dropbox. 106. Look no further Review by J. Rose

If you are searching for a reliable network cam look no further. I have tried all the x10 products and 4 other network cams and this is by far the best. It is relativly easy to set up and they just work. The iphone software and computer interface is clean and easy to understand. I finally did get them viewable on the interent after some help from tech support. It actually was not that hard... you just have to pay attention to what you are doing. Ill give you some advice. When they tell you to do "port forwarding", do not use the "range" option...... do each one indiviudaly. so in your router you will put in the ip address of the cam, then assign a port number. 8090 is a good place to start. So your cam will then be something like this if you are within network. If outside, you need to get your router ip addess then the port number. So something like this.
Besides all that tech geek stuff, you will like the cameras. You can change the scan speed to very slow to surprisingly FAST or anywhere inbetween. and the range pan and tilt range is incredible. You will never feel like "i wish it could go a little farther". You can also have the ir lights come on automatically when it gets dark or you can control them manually. Visability is great at night. May be more than 7 meters which is too far to see much detail anyway. Pic is clear day and night although the color is a little weak, however it does have auto iris control which is great cuz it adjusts instantly to bright light or shade. I have had mine outside under eaves for over 6 months with 0 problems. Oh and i almost forgot. You can talk through them and listen to feedback which is great. No extra speakers or anything required. This is priceless... especially when the kids are outside doing something they shouldnt be!!! SIgn up at Foscams website because they occasionally (like every month) have sales which *can* be a discount sometimes. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  107. Execellent option Review by sao paulo, brazil

  108. Easy to use and set up Review by L. Wood

Purchased as webcam for my mountain cabin and working great. Easy in-network set up and not too difficult to set up for viewing over the web. The picture is very good, especially for the price. The unit has a very nice appearance about it. The IR works well, though I have it indoors behind glass so only get reflection as currently installed. I have played with it in other locations and IR works pretty well. Also, lots of on-line assistance for the Foscam products, if needed. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  109. Very good IP Camera Review by StrayKatJJL

I have 4 of these cameras now. They have a perfect video angle for an average size room. Its really cool to click an icon on my smart phone and see my entire house in live view. That is worth $400 to me.(Foscam has an app for these) I have caught and sent to prison two boys robbing my house while I was at work. They were thought to be responsible for over 30 break-ins before they had the misfortune to try and ripp me off. You have zero argument with the judge when video playback shows you in the act. The infrared is perfect for night time viewing. I simply could not imagine not having these cameras. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  110. Great little solo cam.. Review by ResilientRN6640

Works well with iPhone4, pretty easy to setup, works reliably. Made for indoors, but I use it as a pet cam right now.Great short range night view with IR LEDs. My Wife monitors it from work! I know I can add more as need and budget allow, and can record to a dvr/hdd. Great price for DIY'ers. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  111. Nice Camera! Review by Florida

Just started setting up the system, its challenging if you have never done it before, but there is Great customer support available! Camera is true to color and seems to be easy to use once set up. I will rate more as I finish with the set up and figure out the software. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  112. Excellent Support - Great Product Review by BrucePSU

I recently set up my new Foscam FI8910 and was having a little difficulty navigating throught the setup with my router/WiFi. One call to their customer support and their tech (Anzen)handled the entire setup - remotely. Their support is excellent. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  113. Happy Customer - for the most part Review by Paws2Live

I was thrilled to bits when I finally got this working. It wasn't very easy to setup. For me, it wasn't immediately apparent that there were two mac addresses for the one item. One MAC address was for the wired nic and the other was for the wireless nic. The MAC address for the wireless nic was in tiny print and my old eyes had trouble reading it!

I ordered two more of these so that should speak to whether or not I'm satisfied!

In order to make the camera work, I had to replace my old router. I had a friend disagree that
it could be the router until I replaced it and things started working just fine. Apparently old
routers (5+ years old) don't support newer technology very well.

I can view my pups while I am away from home on my Android phone which is awesome.

The provided documentation isn't the greatest. I got a lot of good advice right here
in the reviews section and also on the Foscam website itself.

I amazed at the quality of the IR output
Everything works great once you get it setup (for the most part) (Posted on 6/16/12)

  114. F18910W and excellent tech support Review by charljane "stanjane2"

We purchased 3 F18910Ws directly from Foscam USA for our home. The instructions and video (on web site) were pretty clear (and I understand more tech support soon on the web site). However, I needed some help with port forwarding and e-mail alarm settings. I called Foscam tech support and was assisted by Ralph M., who was both patient and an expert. Both my issues were resolved in one phone call, including tests of the settings, using remote access to my computer. We are impressed by the smooth mechanical rotation, the good video quality and the "value" of the camera for the cost. I am also impressed by the camera's ability to "see" in very low light situations. A great product. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  115. Great Product and Great Tech Support! Review by QDRO

  116. Foscam 8910 IP camera Review by J. F. Kuklis

The technical support guy (Ricky) was very helpful in getting my camera to work wired, wirelessly and through the internet remotely. The callback from tech support came in about 5 minutes from when I called for help AAA+++. Ricky showed me how to view multiple cameras, fullscreen etc. I can't remember what else he did for me but the bottom line is that he did everything I asked for and made sure that I was happy and that everything worked to my satisfaction. 117. Foscam F18910W - Awesome product AND Awesome Service!! Review by xlhig

I have purchased many items from Amazon over the years, but this is the first review that I've ever written. I felt the need to review because both the product and the support from Foscom are FIRST RATE! I purchased this item on 6/5/12 from Amazon and received it on 6/11/12. After reading reviews on different camera's, I knew that this one would meet my needs. I set it up by myself so that it worked on my home network. But I had difficulty setting up to be able to use on my android app (IP Cam Viewer) and also from viewing from outside of my network. So I called tech support and I was fortunate to talk to "Jees." (I hope I spelled his name correctly.) He sent me an email with a link to click on so that he could remote in to my PC. He finished setting everything up perfectly in about 10 minutes. It's not often that you can find and awesome product with awesome technical support, but that's exactly what I got with this camera. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this camera to anyone and I also recommend Foscam support. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  118. Awesome Product Review by Kansas

What an awesome product, but it can be a little tricky to set up the whole thing up, especially for remote access. Everything worked great for me by making sure I set up my port as 8000 instead of 80 and by following the instructions here: [...]

Now, it took me a while because I didn't set up my port as 8000 instead of port 80, but just in case some of you are like my parents and want a step by step guide to setting this thing up, here are the steps that helped me get my camera working on the wireless network with remote access:

    1. Plug in your Foscam FI8910W IP Camera

    2. Connect your Foscam FI8910W IP Camera to your wireless router with the ethernet cord that comes in the box.

    3. Find out what IP address your camera is operating on.
    - If you have a PC, you can get instructions for doing this here: [...]
    - If you have a MAC, you can get instructions for doing this here: [...]

    4. Configure your Wireless LAN Settings in the Foscam FI8910W IP Camera Device Management tab from your web browser.
    - Click on Wireless LAN Settings and get your camera connected wirelessly. If you are having problems, follow the steps here: [...]
    - You should now be able to disconnect the ethernet cable from the back of your camera and move the camera to the location you are going to use it at. You may have to repeat step 3 above if you are using DHCP. You probably are, so repeat step 3 and make sure you can connect into the Device Management tab wirelessly before going to step 5.

    5. Configure your Users Settings in the Foscam FI8910W IP Camera Device Management tab from your web browser.
    - Click on Users Settings and change the admin password to something you'll remember and also add a user and password and select Visitor for the group (this is so you can let friends and family see the video without having access to change any settings).
    - After you hit Submit, you may have to log in to your camera again with the admin information.

    6. Configure your Basic Network Settings in the Foscam FI8910W IP Camera Device Management tab from your web browser.
    - Keep "Obtain IP from DHCP Server" checked
    - Change the "Http Port" from 80 to 8000
    - Keep "Network Lamp" checked (unless you want to turn off the LED on the back off)

    7. Configure your Wireless Router for Port Forwarding. This essentially sets up remote access for your Foscam FI8910W IP Camera. I have a Linksys Router, so all I did was access the Linksys Router Administration Panel by going to in my web browser and putting in my username and password. If you have a different router, the process may be similar, but you can follow the instructions for setting up port forwarding by selecting your router manufacturer on the list here: [...]
    - In the Linksys Router Administration Panel, click on the Applications & Gaming tab and fill in these settings:
    -- Application FOSCAM
    -- Start 8000
    -- End 8000
    -- Protocol TCP
-- IP Address (or the IP Address that you found the camera on earlier)
    -- Enable check
    - Click "Save Settings" at the bottom of the page.

    8. Find out what your External IP address is.
    - You can find out your External IP Address here: [...]

    9. Access your Foscam FI8910W IP Camera over the internet remotely!
    - In your web browser type in [...] hit enter, and then log into the Foscam FI8910W IP Camera Administration Panel as you did earlier.

    10. If you want to share just the video with your friends and family tell them to type in [...] to their web browser and provide them with the Visitor Username and Password you created earlier in step 5. You are essentially done at this step if you want to be, because everything should be working correctly at this point, but if you want to have an easier web address to give to friends and family, continue to step 11.

    11. Set up a free account on [...]
    - Sign up for a free account on [...]
    - Once you are registered and logged in, click on "Add a Host"
    -- Type in a hostname
    -- Select Port 80 Redirect
--- Your External IP Address should be filled in for you
--- Change the Port from 8080 to 8000
-- Type in what you want the title of the page to be along with keywords and a brief description (This is not a necessary step, but just adds to the experience).
-- Click on "Create Host" at the bottom of the page.
    - Once that is done, now you can direct your friends and family to simply go to [...] and they will be able to see your video over the web. You can go to [...] to get right to the Foscam FI8910W IP Camera Administration Panel as well. (hostname is the name you typed in earlier in this step).

  119. Excellent quality, looks nice, works as advertised Review by Baz

The picture quality during the day and at night using infra-red, is excellent. The build quality of the unit is excellent, and it looks nice. The pan and tilt motor is smooth and covers nearly 360 degrees. Being able to hear audio and speak it through the unit is just cool.

As mentioned in other posts, getting the right apps is key. For Android, "IP Cam Viewer" (Free, or $0.99 with audio) is the best I believe. For iOS, LiveCams HD ($0.99, audio included) is especially fantastic.

The only down side to the whole experience is the web interface to setup the unit. It's a bit ugly and more importantly could use better explanation of what the options mean to reduce Googling - but that's not enough to justify removing any stars. Once the unit is setup, you really don't have to go in there again. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  120. FOSCAM 8910 is worth the extra money Review by J. Liu

I being trying not to buy another Foscam for the past two weeks, I had a FI 8918W before, and it works very well, the WIFI transmission is very good, frame rate is very good. The only negative is the price, it's higher than other foscam-like camera, so when I needed a another WIFI ip cam, I set out to buy look at other options. I tried two other ip cam, one is the lowest price. This one the wifi range is probably one fifth of the Foscam, and the web interface is problematic, sometime I can connect to the GUI, but sometimes I have to power down the camera to re-connect. So that one went back.

I bought a second one from the same company, but with IR-Cut feature, but this one also suffer the same problem with short range of WIFI, and the web interface is also sporatic, at few instances, i had to power down and restart before I can manage or view it again.

The biggest problem with these two camera, is when viewing thru WIFI, the frame rate is about 2 frames per seconds, so when you pan or tile or when the subject moving, it's like watching a comic strip very bad lag.

When I ping those two cameras it get 50% or higher lost packets.

So, then I finally broke down and open my wallet for the 8910W from ebay, sorry Amazon, you did not have the PRIME on the item I needed at the time. The new camera came in with nicer looking exterior shell, very quite when panning/tilting. The range is equally good as 8918, and reach much further than the other two previous camera. I can monitor both WIFI cameras and both frame rate are acceptable, i say 10-15 per second. The color is much better with 8910 due to the ir-cut filter, so if you want accurate color, this is the one to get.

The only thing I can hope for is lower price on these cam so I can get a few more! (Posted on 6/16/12)

  121. WORKS GREAT! Review by mom of 4

WORKS GREAT! but took awhile to setup the wireless feature on a Mac using Airport. I had to search for directions on the Web. Expect to study up before installing, the directions it comes with are not clear. The wireless feature has to do with finding the cameras IP, your router IP and port forwarding for use on the internet. Once that's figured out the iphone apps are easy to connect to the cameras. Put time aside to get it setup and don't expect it to be easy, especially if it's your first one, only because you have to read and set it up by trial and error until it works. Finding the cameras ip was the hardest to figure out on a Mac. The software uses your browser to make settings within the camera. The camera holds the software not your computer. There are lots of instructions on the web for when you get stuck. Once I figured everything out it works really well. I am techie and it still took me awhile to set up everything. We are going to get an outdoor one too. If you're use to figuring out computers then you will get all working okay but if computers are not your thing then you will need help from your techie teenager are someone that works with computers all the time.

  122. Fantastic from iPhone Review by Fred Flinstone "Fred"

Shortly after I bought this, my opinion changed. A new app came out call Foscam Pro. Not Foscam Surveillance Pro. I got this so I could watch my home from my iPhone while away from home. The new Foscam Pro app lets me watch, record video, listen to audio, and talk through the camera. Foscam Pro is the only app that lets me talk through it. I can calm my son, talk to the Fedex guy, and much more. Very satisfied now. The app is great [...] (Posted on 6/16/12)

  123. Great Product! Love the App Review by Joseph

I bought this camera as a solution to a baby monitor, although it is a bit more expensive than a traditional monitor the FOSCAM IP Control 2 app for only 3.99 on iTunes has allowed me to hook my camera's up to my iPhone and iPad all using the iCloud. This makes it easy to check on my children from wherever I may be. It gives me a piece of mind knowing i can watch them even at work. Great all around product i love where the technology is going. 124. The new hotness Review by Smoky Blue

I have a Logitech Alert camera system and like it, but the Logitech's website is often down or slow, so trying to view my cam on my iPhone is sometimes problematic. So, after some research I picked up a Foscam F18910W. Love it! Streaming over the internet is way faster than the Logitech Alert and has many more features. It's worked flawlessly with my WiFi setup on an Airport Extreme router.

    * Streaming over the internet is fast -- use a web browser or mobile app
    * Tilt/Pan functions work great
    * There are a lot of good iPhone apps that work with the camera
    * Setup was pretty simple
    * User management is easy
    * It has IR lights and an IR filter for viewing at night
    * 2 way speakers allow you to hear audio from the camera and talk through the cam's speakers (Posted on 6/16/12)

  125. Great little wireless IP camera Review by Siucity

I have a few wireless IP cameras, and so far this Foscam FI8910W is working really well. I have it placed by the window looking out the front of the house. Since I have it on the inside, I've turned off its IR so at night there's no reflection of the IR. I have a patio light on so it works just fine with that at night.

These cameras are relatively easy to set up if you're network savvy. The setup process goes something like this:

    1. plug the camera into your wired network and power on
    2. log into your router to see what IP address it picked up
    3. type in that IP in your browser
    4. type "admin" for username and leave the password field blank to log in
    5. make your necessary configuration changes (add password, configure wireless, etc.) and save
    6. once configured, unplug wired connection, power-cycle the camera, make sure it's accessible wirelessly, then place camera in desired location

The configuration process is about 5 minutes for me. I spend more time trying to figure out where I want to place the camera for maximum coverage. If I need another camera, I wouldn't hesitate buying this same camera again. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  126. Great camera for the price Review by TRDTech

I ordered this camera because my friend showed me what his camera could do. He has the older FI18918W model and i wanted to add security cameras to my house. I ended up getting this model since it is the newest model with a new IR-cut filter. Setting up the camera for wired and wireless was pretty easy but getting access from outside of your network was a little confusing. DYNDNS and port forwarding were foreign to me and i had to google a lot of stuff to set that part up. You need to sign up for DYNDNS.ORG (14 day free trial) then cancel before the 14 days and you get to keep and use 1 domain name for free. Functions of this camera is good for the price. I would even pay a little more if they would increase the camera resolution. Night vision and motion sensor with email notification is awesome. Email notifications also include 5-6 snapshots of when motion was detected. My friend with the older model saw my camera video and said that the colors are better than the older model so he ordered 2 new cameras. I liked mine so much that i ordered another camera also. Great bang for the buck! (Posted on 6/16/12)

  127. Foscam FI8910W - Nice IP CAM Review by dbphotos

I have 4 of these now plus 2 Panasonic BL-C230A's. Each has its strengths.
The advantages of the Foscam are:

    1-Great range of motion - 270 degrees L and R.
2-Decent IR night vision out to 25 feet or so. Works in complete darkness.
3-Microphone feature so you can talk (and listen) through its speakers. Panasonic can only listen-no mike.
    4-Relatively easy setup.
    5-Good prices available.

  128. Great camera Review by B. Steinfurth

This is my first wireless camera and it works great. I installed it in the barn to watch over a dozen goats that are due to have kids. It has saved me many trips to the barn to check on the does. The IR picture at night is super. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  129. Wireless wasn't working at first but now its working great Review by C. Garty

My new FI8910W wasn't working with my wireless network with wireless security disabled. It could see the network when I scanned but it wouldn't connect to it. When I changed it to use wireless security WPA-Personal it worked just fine.

Being able to put it on the web is great. And I'm using an app called "Private Eye" to access the video on my Windows Phone. Now I just need to get the author to add support for the microphone and speaker so I can use it as a fully fledged baby monitor. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  130. Simple IP camera Review by tsp159

After discovering several soiled spots on my new carpet and damage to the walls, I decided to dip my toes into the wild world of IP cameras to spy on my dogs and discover what they do when I'm not home. Enter the Foscam FI8910W.

I didn't need anything expensive or high quality, as I'm not guarding the crown jewels. However, the PT feature is nice to have since the viewing angle is narrow to catch my whole living room. The image quality (640x480) is acceptable for my purposes, and that's what I expected for what I paid.

Setup was a breeze, I didn't even install the software since you log into it through your browser (assuming your have a modicum of IT knowledge, plugging into a DHCP enabled router and discovering what the device IP is pretty simple.) Plugged in my wifi settings, changed some of the security settings, and it lives! Very simple, I'm not sure why there are stories of folks having so many problems. I'm on a basic Windows based network, but I don't see why other systems would be fussy.

I configured my Synology DS211j for a single IP camera and it worked when I claimed it was a FI8908W device. PT works, motion detection works, I can't complain really. I set motion capture scheduling for the hours I'm not at home so I don't have to wade through recordings of me watching TV. (How very meta.)

Haven't tried nighttime surveillance yet, so I can't speak for those capabilities. Nor have I set up remote access, but I think with any device (this camera or my fileserver) it would be a bit more difficult for the uninitiated than the initial setup is.

Bottom line: You're buying a cheap, made-in-China camera. It isn't the most featured or highest quality. It might not last forever. If you're wanting something to take pictures and get them out into the internet, I can't find a better deal.

Update: Got my Synology configured for remote access. DS Cam is pretty crashy on my Droid2, but when it does work I have pictures of my pooches doing whatever it is they do in the middle of the night. The camera works great at night, the IR-cut is automatic and seems pretty good. Again, it's not enough for CSI style "ENHANCE!" action, but I can see who is soiling the carpet just fine. 131. Awesome Review by Luke

This camera is great. It came within a week as promised. I wasn't there to receive the package, the delivery guy called me and said he would come back the next day and he did. He came at 7:30 am to make sure I got it before work. I'm in IT but I was torn between the reviews on here. Some people saying it was extremely easy to setup and some people claiming to be IT experts that took 4 days to set it up. I gathered all of my resources together (paper manual, foscam website instructions, the pdf instructions from Foscam, and the Amazon reviews) and proceeded with caution. It took me about an hour to setup but if I did one now it would take 5 mins. If you have ever messed around with a router configuration and you know how to follow written instructions, then you'll be able to setup this camera. I did NOT have to subscribe to any ddns website or any of that crap. If you follow the instructions under support on Foscam's site, step by step, you will be good. Also, download the PDF instructions from Foscam, the paper manual started off good but then progressed into broken English. The website instructions seemed to be written better and had screen shots. The first 2 parts of setup were extremely easy. Plug the camera into the router and power (cables included), Install the software and open it up. The camera's IP is listed there. At first it didn't work but Windows prompted me to install an Active X control, once I did I got video. The "hard" part of setting it up to access from the outside world, just took some sniffing around. Their site has instructions for all the big name routers but I have a no name Zytel that they didnt have instructions for. I followed the instructions, they said "Go through the options on your router until you find an option that says "Virtual Server", "Port Forwarding", or "Port Mapping" mine happened to be under "NAT" on my router. I used the screenshot as a reference and went through every setting on my router until I found something that looked like the screenshot. You set the camera to use a port other than 80 (they suggest 8090), and then in the router, you enter the camera's ip address and port that you're using (ingoing and outgoing the same). At first this wasn't working for me, but then I noticed that my router was UPnP ready but the camera UPnP setting was unchecked, so I checked it and it worked! So once this is setup, you go to and find out the IP of your modem. Once you have your WAN ip you can type it with the port from anywhere in the world to connect to your camera (eg The camera also has a setting that will email you the IP if it changes! I have a Droid so I went right into the app store and surprisingly there are a bunch of free apps that you can use, and they work! The infared night vision works really well, I've been seeing white orbs dancing around my apt in the dark (not crazy, I took video of it) not sure what that is all about. I just started messing with the audio, it's not the best in the world but it works and it's $100 camera. I'm still messing with the settings and I can keep going all night but I highly suggest this camera. It has more functions than cameras that cost 3 times as much (from what I read). And don't listen to all that BS about not buying it from Amazon, if you look on Foscam's website, Amazon is listed under trusted sellers. It cost the same on the website as it does Amazon anyway (Posted on 6/16/12)

  132. Great camera Review by Theodore Lesnett

The camera works flawlessly, the picture is crystal clear, the night vision awesome.
Setting it up attached to a cable is straightforward. Make it wireless and accessable from outside your network, much more difficult.
The IP Camera Tool didn't work, but the workaround is simple once you know.
Just type the camera IP address into your URL search ( and the Monitoring System should come right up.
You will need to be able to get into your router. Again, typing this address into your URL search and it should come right up:
In your router, (I'll use CISCO as an example) you will need to go to the Wireless tab, Basic Wireless Settings, and check Manual and Enable SSID Broadcast. Wireless Security tab should be WPA2 Personal and your passphrase (password) must match the password in the camera.
In the Administrator tab of the Real-Time IP Camera Monitoring System you need to go to Basic Network Settings and manually type in the IP Address of the camera, and the following numbers: Subnet Mast Gateway DNS Server Http Port 80 Network Lamp (checked). How to get the IP Address of the camera? Here it is: Then Wireless LAN Settings and click the scan button and then pick your router from the list. The SSID must match your router SSID, the Encryption is WPA2 Personal (AES) and the share key is the same as the passphrase or password of the router (above). Now, the last thing will to be set up Port Forwarding to see your wireless camera from some net connection outside of your own router. To do this you go back into the router and find Single Port Forwarding. In Cisco its under Gaming. There you assign an application name, like My Cam, type 80 for the External and Internal Port, and in that line's IP Address add 144 so it reads and Enable it by checking a box.
All this done, unplug the camera from the router and in your URL search type the camera's IP address and it should work: Outside of your network you can see it by typing your IP Address (you can get it from your router (or Google What Is My ISP) then add a colon and your port number which we above gave as 80. So it could be: (Posted on 6/16/12)

  133. Great little camera. Simply performs as advertised Review by Mike

The basic stuff this camera is supposed to do - connect quickly to your wireless network, pan/tilt/zoom, capture great images in regular and little/no light at reasonable distances - just works, it's fantastic. The applications available for viewing the video on your iOS or Android device are all over the map, more on this later, but initial setup was a breeze and, again, it just works.

The advanced features, such as motion sensing, the ability to email you a picture, save a picture or video stream and forward all such traffic outside your wireless LAN to the interwebs at large also just work. These advanced features took a little while to setup and again, if you're not familiar with port forwarding and dynamic DNS hosting services then this stuff will be difficult for you. I am an experienced user and it took me a couple hours to make it all work. Some of that time was spent hunting around for better documentation though because, again, Foscam's documentation sucks, but once I got it, it was awesome. (Posted on 6/16/12)

  134. Best Value Wireless IP Camera Review by Dreary Ohio

This camera, and the company itself, clearly has some shortcomings. However, at this price you'll be content, if not ecstatic. It works well as a security camera and baby monitor. After using it for 1 week I've bought 2 more. Details below.

After researching Wireless IP cameras for a few hours I concluded that this camera is the best value. I compared it to all other wireless IP cameras including TrendNet TRENDnet TV-IP422WN SecurView Wireless Day/Night Pan/Tilt/Zoom Internet Surveillance Camera Logitech Logitech Alert 750e Outdoor Master Security System with Night Vision Foscam 8918 Foscam FI8918W Wireless/Wired Pan & Tilt IP/Network Camera with 8 Meter Night Vision and 3.6mm Lens (67° Viewing Angle) and the high end ones Panasonic Panasonic BB-HCM531A Outdoor Pan/Tilt PoE Security Network Camera (Silver) and this amazing one from Axis Axis 214 Ptz Network Camera Pan Tilt Zoom Day/night 2 Way Audio. Not to mention this camera is light years ahead of a TrendNet camera I bought a few years ago for the same price (Newer Model) TRENDnet ProView Wireless Internet Surveillance Camera TV-IP501W (White).

Setup: I couldn't find the software available for download on Foscam's website so I actually had to use the CD (People still use CD's?). Once I installed the software, I hard wired the camera to my router Linksys E2500 Advanced Simultaneous Dual-Band Wireless-N Router, opened up the software, read the manual, typed in the default use id and password, read the manual again, played with all the setting and then set it up to connect wirelessly. Then I closed the software, unplugged the camera from the router, unplugged the power to the camera, plugged the power back in, opened the software back up and everything worked fine. If you have time check out the video on the CD. What's a rooter anyway?

The rotation works great. If you set the speed to 0 it moves fast.
At far distances, the lens itself is decent enough to get more than just general idea of what is going on. At close distances it's sufficient.
    Works great with the iPad.
According to my Kill A WATT P3 International P4400 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor it only uses 3 watts.

    Camera Cons:
Either the quality control is off or something got mixed up because I ordered this camera in white and it came with a nice multifunctional mounting bracket. However, I ordered the silver/black version of this camera and it came with 2 antennas, but no mounting bracket. I contacted Foscam about this. They apologized, didn't question me, and sent me a mounting bracket for free.
The body of the camera fees a bit cheap, which maybe it is. For example, the top half of the camera does not fit snugly into the base. However, I have not had any problems rotating it.
The edge of the picture has a slight bow to it.
The resolution is not HD. You couldn't make out a license plate from more than 20 feet away if that.
While transferring a large file wirelessly from one laptop to another using my E2500 router, the camera would pan erratically. As soon as the file transfer stopped the camera worked fine.
I couldn't get the speakers to work even with a microphone NADY SP-4C Dynamic Microphone plugged directly into the unit or into my computer. (Not sure what to do here.)
I couldn't get it to play/record any sound either. To improvise I bought a baby monitor NTM-910YLW - Sony Baby Call Nursery Monitor.
Runs hot, but it hasn't affected its performance and again it's only using 3 watts.
Supposedly you can't use this outside. I may test that theory. If I do I'll let you know.

    Software Cons:
You can't change the size of the camera view.
You can't digitally zoom in on one spot.
If the alarm triggers it records for 1 minute. The only thing you can adjust is the sensitivity.
You can't adjust screen size, which is really annoying when you use the multiple camera view because the screen size of each camera is tiny.

If you have multiple monitors, double click on the picture and it will open up a full screen view on one of your other monitors. This is especially helpful if you're using the multiple camera view because the picture is small.

    Camera Suggestions:
The company details the limitations of the camera, but you don't realize how nice it would be to have some features until you use it.
This camera should be able to turn 360 degrees instead of just 270. It's quite annoying to not be able to see behind the camera.

    Software Suggestions:
The alarm settings need to be much more adjustable.
The screen size needs to be adjustable.
You need to be able to click on an area of the screen and zoom in.

Anyone else have a sneaky suspicion that someone in (guess where?) is looking at what I'm looking at? Maybe that's why they're so cheap?

If you figured out how to get the sound working or have a solution to any of the other problems leave me a comment!

    UPDATE 1:

I was able to get the sound and microphone working. I had to add the camera's IP address to my trusted sites. The manufacturers website has a forum with answers to questions like this.

    UPDATE 2:

I have 4 cameras total. 2 black, 1 white and 1 silver. The silver model appears to have some problems. I have a tripod that will easily screw into all but the silver one. Also, after about a month of use the IR filter will not turn off on the silver one so the green grass looks like a purplish gray. I've just started the RMA process and will try to update. 135. Good value, not great Review by Robert Swindell "digital man"

I purchased the FI8910W (in black) and have had it setup indoor for about a week:

    Device ID 000DC5D65545
    Device Firmware Version
    Device Embeded Web UI Version

    * Pan/Tilt (my first PT cam), adjustable speed, quiet
    * Built-in web server (convenient, but not the greatest UI)
    * Small and unobtrusive design
    * Two-way audio (with built-in mic and speaker)
    * Night-vision with decent IR LEDs and IR-cut filter (for daytime)
    * Price ($95 with discount code "WIFI1001")
    * Infinite focus
    * Decent low-light performance
    * Good color saturation

    * 640x480 max resolution (maxing out at about 6fps)
    * MJPEG video only (not H.264), which is likely limiting the potential frame-rate (fps) over WiFi
    * Lack of anti-aliasing
    * No PoE support
    * Serious background noise in audio input (microphone)
    * Bad/scratchy audio output (speaker)
    * Two-way audio (talk-back) does not work reliably over the Internet at all
    * Will toggle IR LEDs/Cut-Filter on/off frequently when ambient lighting changes rapidly

You can see a sample picture from this camera (and side-by-side comparison with some other cameras) at [...]

I'm using Blue Iris Web/Security Camera Software with a variety of different camera types and brands and very happy with it (the software, not included with this camera).

  136. Good camera but a little tricky to set up on web Review by uktravailer

[**Updated now with 2nd camera over internet, see below for information on multiple camera set up with dyndns **]

I bought this over the cheaper, but older model (FI8918w) based on the reviews saying this had a better picture. So far I am sufficiently pleased that I will look into getting some more to cover more of the house.

    * Setting up the camera.
The camera is very easy to set up as a wifi camera, by following the written instructions and the video that comes on the installation disk.
The process involves plugging the camera into your router, installing the software and getting the camera recognized on the network and then unplugging the network cable and logging the camera into your wireless network. All fairly plain sailing, and this allows you to play around with the camera settings, and get used to its operation.

Setting up the camera for web access is a little more difficult. The video on the disk is a useful primer, but the best place to go for help is forums. In the end it took me a few hours of frustration (and reading), but I am sure this can be alleviated by considering the following points:
    1. The DNS service at is no longer free, but will give a 14-day trial after which the service is $20 per year.
    2. I am a Verizon Fios customer and it took me some time to identify that you should NOT allocate port 80 to the camera. It seems that Verizon blocks this port according to one post I read. I allocated port 8090 for this first camera and it worked fine as soon as I did this.
    3. The Fios router is easy to set up for port-forwarding - it's a hyperlink on the main menu which takes you into the Advanced Options.
    4. Be patient. You often have to repeat actions on the camera and allow it to reboot a few times before it will show "success" on DNS forwarding.

    * Operating the camera.
There are several camera parameters that can be changed, such as picture size, frame rate, brightness and contrast. The IR works well and can be turned on and off remotely.
The camera has motion detection, with user sensitivity settings. When in alarm mode the camera can be set to record to your main network PC drive and also take still photos and email them directly to you.
The camera has 2-way audio although there is a distinct lag between network and speaker. There is some audio feedback which I managed to alleviate by rotating the camera aerial (wifi antenna) so this it faces flat. I read somewhere that this is due to the way these aerials are coiled inside the wand so that the signal is better from the sides that the wand top, which seems counter-intuitive, but my point is that you should play with the aerial (wifi antenna) position before getting too angry with it :-)

Overall I would say this is a good buy at under $100 and gives good pictures. Now that I have set it up I shall be getting some more, so I guess that says it all. The software will allow up to 9 cameras to be connected.

I deduct one star as I had to do a fair amount of research, and there really is no need for this. I would think this should be set up in under an hour with the right guidance.

    [Update 24 March 2012]
    * Multiple Cameras
I bought a second camera and set it up on the network very easily, simply using the IP Camera Tool already installed for the first camera and even the network cable that I had left in the back of the router. Camera #2 was picked up and identified and then I added it to the wifi network as with camera #1.
Getting access over the internet was a bit more tricky, although once I had read through the forum posts and started thinking properly it was fairly straightforward.
I assigned port 8091 to camera #2 (remember to keep away from port 80, as mentioned above) and then copied all the settings from camera #1 to camera#2 in the DDNS Server settings and Mail Service Settings menu (except port number, obviously).

    * Hint for using presets:
If you want to use the preset camera positions you MUST first uncheck the "disable preset" box in the PTZ menu under Administrator. Then, if you check "goto preset on boot" whenever the camera reboots it will start up in the preset position you last left it in. This of course assumes you have set the preset in the first place under the Operator menu (!) As an aside I don't know why they call it PTZ, as there is no zoom function on this model :-(

    * Now for the internet:
In the Multi-Device Settings it is important NOT to use the local IP address of the camera (e.g. but instead use the the DDNS web address, in my case [...], when completing the host field.
Once done this all works pretty well, and successfully emails me from either camera when motion is detected and records a video to my PC's HDD.

Next step, removing the PC as video storage by either using NAS or FTP directly from the router... (Posted on 6/16/12)

  137. Nice camera - easy wireless - not so easy internet viewing Review by Talie

UPDATE: we have been using the camera for a month now. It works really well. My initial troubles of viewing over the Internet were solved and I am very happy with the camera. Added a star because of the great performance.

I have been using the camera for three days. Overall I am pleased with the camera because of the good quality picture, pan/tilt feature, and low price.

    - Inexpensive (compared to most cameras with the same features)
    - Very good picture
    - IR works well
    - Easy setup on wireless network
    - There is a free app for the iPhone to view and control the camera (CamViewer for Foscam)

    - Setup for internet viewing is difficult. DDNS provider documented in setup manual is no longer free :( I had to search out an alternative. I used [...]. I'm not sure how well my alternative will work because I have dynamic IP address. (if this part of the review confuses you, beware of setting this camera up).
-Built-in web server viewer isn't functional with iPhone or iPad (doesn't respond to touch). There is a free app available as a substitute (see above)
    - Sound does not work with browsers other than Internet Explorer (the recommended plug-in for Chrome and Firefox didn't work for me).
    - Sound will not work on iPhone or iPad (my research so far hasn't revealed a way to get it to work (Posted on 6/14/12)

  138. Great product...poor service experience Review by Mike McK

This is a very good product that does what it says it can do. The quality of the pictures for the purpose I bought it (watching my two year old)is just perfect. Features, awesome!

My key disappointment is how difficult it is to set up for remote monitoring.

Let me start by saying that I am not a techie by any stretch. I have a basic understanding of computers, I know what an IP address is and some other basic networking principles; however I don't care/want to know anything about routing tables, port forwarding etc. Not interested! So I think I am pretty much the average parent wanting to put in some self-help technology and way too busy to spend hours trying to make it work.

Out of the box the camera is really easy to set up within your home network- no problem! However when you want to set it up for monitoring from outside your home (which is really the whole point about having this camera!) that's when the "fun" begins.

First of all the manufacturers do not care to ship the most up to date manual with the product. Then you have to learn real fast about things like static IP address, dynamic IP, port forwarding, get a domain name from DYDNS etc etc. Don't worry calling their "help desk"- totally unhelpful and take no accountability for anything.

I got it to work eventually, but it took me a good 4 hours over 3 days to get it working properly, and I needed a domain name (NOT FREE!).

They could really improve this product by making it easier to set up and improve their Customer Support. (Posted on 6/14/12)

  139. Best buy for the money Review by E. Martinson "Ladlenits"

I spent a lot of time looking for a good IP camera. My motivation to get a camera was to use it as a baby monitor, I was going to also hook this up to my Synology NAS DS 211 with surveillance station.

I work in I.T. so I wasn't too worried about the setup as some people have complained about it. With that being said I felt it was very easy to set up and had the wireless and port forwarding setup in less than half an hour. Since I knew what I was doing in advance I cant remark on how difficult/easy the documentation is to read for a novice user in setting it up.

    Video Quality:
I don't have much experience with IP cameras but I am very pleased with the video quality. I have seen cameras with similar specs selling for much more than this so for ~ $100 bucks you cant be too picky. The quality and detail it picked up is more than adequate for what I need. The night vision was great, In a large room and very low light I was able to pick up everything in its line of sight very clearly. The one thing I noticed that I've seen on other reviews was a faint clicking noise when the IR lamps were on.

    Other Features:
I like that it also has a built in mic and speaker so i can pick up the sounds nearby and also transmit audio to the device. I've already freaked my wife out a few times with this. The pan tilt and zoom is great also. There are a few spots it cant rotate to and the digital zoom is just that so you lose a lot of quality when you zoom in. If you are going to be using this with a Synology Disk Station some of these features are not available through their surveillance station so be prepared for that. From the forums at Synology it looks like they are working on getting all the features enabled but it sounds like both Synology and Foscam blame each other for the things that don't work so im not holding my breath.

The built in web interface is okay. Nothing to spectacular and I honestly didn't play around with it all that much. I will be doing most of my Live viewing from my iPhone or iPad so I use an app called LiveCamPro which is excellent and worth the money.

All in all I think for what you get with this camera it is a bargain. If you need a camera with lots of features and good quality picture pick one of these up (Posted on 6/14/12)

  140. Excellent Features for the Price Review by R. Tickle "RATickle"

Considering that you are paying less than $100 for a wireless IP Camera that provides PTZ, infrared night vision, motion detection, and automatic email of alarm photos, there is very little one can criticize about this camera. Yes, it's tricky to set-up if you have never done port-forwarding before and yes, the frame rate and resolution are both a little low, and the audio is crap, but remember that you paid less than $100 for this thing. If you need audio, higher frame rates and better resolution, you should buy a more expensive IP camera.

As far as setup goes, if you understand networking and port-forwarding, these are my recommendations:

    1) Do NOT install the software on the CD.
    2) Connect the camera by Cat-5 wire to your computer.
    3) Login to your router (via browser) and find the IP address assigned to your camera.
    4) Login to the camera at that IP address (via browser) and IMMEDIATELY turn OFF the DHCP.
    5) Give your camera a fixed IP address on your network and fill in the subnet mask with what you normally use.
    6) The Gateway and DNS fields should normally be the IP address of your router.
    7) Fill in the SSID, encryption type, and share key used by your wireless network.
    8) Pick a 4 digit number to use for the HTTP port number. (I have no idea what "Network Lamp" is so I left it checked.)
    9) Disconnect the Cat-5 cable and re-boot the camera.
    10) Re-login to the camera at the new fixed IP address to verify that everything's working.
    11) Login to your router and set a port-forwarding entry to map to the fixed IP address and HTTP port you gave your camera.
    12) Use the "What's My IP" site to find your outside IP address.
    13) Enter your outside IP address and HTTP port number into a browser and verify that you can get into the camera from outside your house.
    14) You're done.

    UPDATE #1:
Under the Mail Service Settings there is a checkbox named "Report Internet IP by Mail". If you check this, when you ISP gives you a new external IP address or when the camera reboots because of a power failure, the camera will email you the current external IP address and port! A very nice feature for those of us who prefer not to use DDNS services.

    UPDATE #2:
The best app I've found for viewing IP camera feeds on a smartphone or tablet is IP Cam Viewer by Robert Chou.

    UPDATE #3:
While I am still pleased with my FosCams, two things have happened recently that make me wonder about the business practices of FosCam. First, out of the blue they have raised the price $10. Second, is given me the run-around about an RMA to return a camera I purchased directly from FosCam. If you do decide to purchase a FosCam camera, buy it through Amazon. Amazon will not give you the run-around over a return. FosCam seems to be money-grubbing and anti-customer. (Posted on 6/14/12)

  141. I Love This Camera Review by brenzen

I bought this camera as a baby monitor solution for my Baby . I have a iPhone and iPad , and having this camera has been a great alternative to regular baby monitor's as we can see whats going on anywhere we go , and use it as a Nanny cam . I really like the ability to control the camera. The setup can be a little difficult but there are some great posts online to help you on either PC or Mac. I would highly recommend this camera. The setup for allowing access to the camera outside your local network does require some specialized knowledge on how to configure port forwarding on your router. Depending on your expertise that may be an issue, But if you go to the foscam website they to have all instructions how to do it , and after setting it up I'm Happy now . (Posted on 6/14/12)

  142. Much improved over previous models Review by Ron B.

I purchased this product directly from the manufacturer due to the disclaimer on their website that states they only offer support to products purchased from them directly. Click the camera on their website to read the disclaimer.

This is my second camera from them. My first camera was the 8905W and it worked fine for a year then the wireless stopped working. I'm hoping my new camera lasts longer.

    Here is my review...

I had the unique opportunity to see this camera in action before I purchased it and was impressed with the specs and ease of use. It's daylight picture is fine for my needs as I only use it to cover the first floor entrance way. It's field of view is adequate and the picture is clear enough to make out details such as objects on the floor or on the table in the other room. It's night vision is fine for a good 20 feet, maybe a little more of complete darkness and 50+ in low light. The wireless setup was a breeze and the web control works great. The only reason I give this four stars is it's lack of Zoom. This is a PT Camera ONLY. There is no zoom and that would have made this a perfect camera for the price. The camera has an outdoor setting that greatly improves the picture quality when viewing the outdoors. Unfortunately this is an indoor camera but viewing through a window pane produced no noticeable glare.
However, viewing through the window screen blacked out the picture completely. Night viewing through a window pane was useless as the IR LED's produced a blinding glare. If your going to use this camera outdoor, I suggest taking the environment into account and glare through glass enclosures.

The audio works well. I used a stereo Mic and mini computer speakers to test it (Just wanted to see if it actually worked) as I have no real need for a permanent hook-up. The wife just yells up the stairs anyway.

They offer a software bundled package from the manufacturer for a better deal than purchasing both separately.

All in all, not a bad camera for the price. (Posted on 6/14/12)

  143. foscam 2012 Review by terry

i have several foscam IP cameras ( Fi8918W) that allows me to see my home from anywhere in the world that has an Internet connection,we had some issues with washed out and discolored images on the FI8918W , it wasn't so terrible , but this new FI8910W has the IR cut filter and fixes the problems related to washed out and discolored images , it is $10.00 more , but if I'm paying 89.99 (which is a very low price for such a device in the first place) this $10.00 wont make a big difference . Also The camera looks and feels nicer and more durable then the old one . BTW the old one had a 1 Year warranty and this has a 2 year also something to think about. (Posted on 6/14/12)

  145. great product Review by thewaxtadpole

these are definitely great cameras... people think these things are extremely simple to install -- and they are -- but you still need some familiarality with remote DNS. if you don't they offer the option to remote install which no other companies do.

  146. Easy as pie Review by David   Verified review with purchase

I have 2 of these cams and just love them. Really easy to setup with my router and have the port forwarding configured to pass it through. Easy to control via my android phone and iphone. Having said that, I'm using a paid app on the android - having a small issue with the audio on the android, but overall amazing value for the buck! (Posted on 6/13/12)
