THE GOOD:
Low light IR performance with F19821W is incredible, but IR video resolution compared to F19820W is greatly reduced and noisy on the horizontal plane. Reduced IR resolution & video noise is still fully acceptable as supplemental IR lighting is not required beyond 10M. I have found, the F19821W will perform IR imaging on it’s own over 80M. In this price range, nothing I have seen comes close in low light IR performance.
Multiple camera viewing with other compatible FOSCAM H264 cameras with standard software is a welcome feature.
No problems at all with Blue Iris PC software or iPhone apps: Blue Iris & Live Cams Pro.

THE BAD:
The old (less than 3 months ), discontinued, F19820W is not compatible with built in FOSCAM multiple camera viewing software.
Daylight video resolution is not as good as the FI9820W, suspect this is maybe to the wider angle lens being used. But also could be attributed to firmware video settings for bit rate, frame rate, & key frame interval do not show latest applied settings. And I question if high quality video settings are truly applied. There is no way to confirm latest settings. Settings page defaults back to factory presets
Firmware does have many other issues (too many to list), primarily as stated above, the latest applied settings will not show as modified to users settings if one exits and reenters various setting pages.
Wireless settings do work, but applied settings will not show in the wireless setting page. You need to look in the device status to confirm if WiFi is working.
Video on screen display settings for time and camera name is not currently configured to turn these items on or off.

THE UGLY:
FOSCAM sent one used camera as new. Camera was not in the normal “Home” position, power cord was not tied, and network IP settings and password were not set to factory default. Had to perform a 30 sec. hot reset to default this camera back to proper settings.

OVERALL:
Bang for the buck, I really like this cam, and will order more. But I do hope FOSCAM will correct the firmware issues soon, and will not send out any more used cameras as new.

This camera has great picture quality, but the SDK is completely different than previous Foscam models. IT DOES NOT WORK ON SECURITYSPY for the Mac. I can get it to work in BlueIris, but the PTZ causes errors. If all you want to use is a browser, the picture quality is great.

The FI9821W does work with BI but you have to update the software to the latest Rev. Also some wireless routers require firmware updates to work with the new H.264 format. All in all after performing all these updates the FI9821W works well. IP CAM Viewer Pro on my Adriod device works as well. The only issue I have right now is that you can not set the default home position of the camera after a power fail or reset. They claim that the web interface functions match that of the FI8910W but I don't see it. The PTZ functions are also slow. (Posted on 1/9/13)

Just an update, there were previous issues with Blue Iris 3.14 where the preset buttons would not work. Blue Iris has been updated to 3.14.02 and the issues are resolved. (Posted on 1/7/13)

not sure if these latest models support smtps - not many ISPs allow unencrypted smtp connections (for sending alerts), this is real problem with earlier cameras at least... (Posted on 1/7/13)

I recently purchased a model FI9821W and love the camera. The picture is much more clear and crisp than the 8910 version cameras I have. The only complaint is that the Blue Iris software presets do not trigger movement with the camera. The PT functions work fine, but the preset positions do not appear to work with BI 3.14 and the latest foscam firmware. (Posted on 1/6/13)

So far this has way better brightness control and low light capabilities than the FI9820W. So far I like it a lot! (Posted on 1/6/13)

Firmware is buggy, beware.!!! Cannot connect over wifi, security flaws, and more. No iPhone or iPad apps support this camera yet, few third party surveillance packages support it either. If you need a camera that you only view through a desktop machine web browser (iPad/iPhone Safari doesn't work either) and have a wired connection to the camera then this is for you. If you want to use it fo anything else stay away. Will be a long time for these issues to be cared for as there isn't even a published SDK/API for this camera. Has been rushed to market with many short comings.

The FI9821W is supported in version 3.14 of Blue Iris. On the Iphone and Ipad, FI9821W is supported by "LiveCams Pro" as well as the Official Foscam App (soon to be released for free).
