Good price - some bugs Review by MH
This video camera works great when at home and on my wi-fi network. I cannot get it to work on my laptop when on another wi-fi network - same for my Android (we use tinyCAM pro). When on 4GLTE the video is very laggy and sometimes doesn't work. When you tell it to move it takes 10 to 60 seconds before it responds (it's immediate when on my home wi-fi network). I can view youtube videos on 4G, why does this LAG so much? We use it as a baby monitor. It used to shut off on me randomly and reboot - which would turn off the audio. I think the latest firmware update fixed that issue because it hasn't happened since then. (Posted on 9/19/13)
Picture not clear can not connect with LiveCams Pro nor Blue Iris App via iphone 4S Review by Nell
Had previous Foscam 9820W that had clear picture but limited angle range and the night vision was not clear at all. Have the new Foscam 9821W with crystal clear night vision on still objects, however the day view is blurry even with the objects being still. When movement occurs, the moving objects are very blurry even on the night vision. The two remote apps Blue Iris and Live Cams Pro stop working. Had not issue with the 9820W. Tech Support attempted to help with the remote for the two apps but to no avail. Overall if the objects were not blurry and were able to access via my Iphone it would be a 5 star product (Posted on 8/24/13)
Good Product Bad software Review by CD87
The product overall is good, I just wished that the software was able to be moved from your primary display onto your secondary display. Also when I put the program in fullscreen mode it takes up my primary monitor. Wished there were a way to make it fullscreen on secondary monitor (Posted on 7/15/13)
Decent Camera Review by David
This camera has many features and is a great deal for the price. The firmware definitely has some bugs and Foscam is very slow to fix them. Simple things such as when you have the camera in mirror/flip mode, the PTZ controls are reversed! Seems like that should be a simple fix...
I found it tricky to get the web interface Live Video to work with Chrome and Firefox on a Mac as well.
The picture is very clear and the IR works great. I just wish they put some more resources into the firmware... (Posted on 6/6/13)
Much better than the clone Review by PATRICK
Originally bought an EasyN clone - it broke after just a couple of days. Ordered this one, it arrived with the latest firmware installed, had no issues, so far it's great (Posted on 4/15/13)
High Quality Review by stevesdigicams
I have owned and used just about every IP camera that has been available for the home consumer and the Foscam FI9821W is the best bang for the buck yet!! I have tried several other "megapixel" resolution cameras and they all pale in comparison to the Foscam. One thing that has been a constant source of irritation is the "windows OS" requirement of virtually every other IP camera that is being sold today. This isn't a problem if you happen to be a windows user (I am not) as I am a very satisfied Linux user and have been for many years now. Before finding the Foscam the only way I was able to use my IP camera was by running windows in a virtual box environment. I am happy to report that I am now viewing my camera via firefox and VLC. I was a little reluctant at the 720p claim of the Foscam at first, but since viewing the stream from this camera I can tell you that it is indeed 720p and the overall image quality is very impressive as is the true color when not in IR mode! Every other camera that I have used that offers zero lux capability also meant that you had to deal with the lousy daytime color but not the Foscam. The 24fps framerate at 720p is very close to real time, especially when direct wired and is also very impressive when wireless with a good 802.11n signal. Hats off to the Foscam people for giving us a high quality yet very affordable and easy to set up camera. (Posted on 4/3/13)
Adroid App that supports 2-way audio Review by Happy
Besides the apps mentioned above, the Pro version of IP Cam Viewer by Robert Chou does support the FI9821W cams 2-way audio features. In fact, it works rather well. I can monitor several cams at the same time, however, audio is only supported 1 cam at a time. You can switch between the cams and the audio works in duplex. (Posted on 3/11/13)
Daylight Savings Time Issue Review by DST Problem
Love this cam. Bought 2. Works well. When first bought, set time via sync with computer. Worked perfectly. But last night, was the Daylight savings time change.
The cam didn't change automatically. So I just clicked for it to sync with computer again, the time changed correcxtly, BUT the timezone jumped 1 timezone ahead. NOT the timezone that is on the computer.
I checked my other cams, 2 Ciscos and they had auto changed. To test, I clicked to sync with computer and those worked perfectly and right time zone as the computer has.
THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED. (Posted on 3/10/13)
Great camera for what is does for the price Review by Sam
I bought the fI8905w a year and half ago, working perfect. I just got the new fI9821w and it is very good with light changes, color in low light and bright sun. Wireless is lacking, I have cable modem 35Mbps down/5+Mbps up to a Belkin 300Mbps wireless router. It still jerks on movement and 720p hd drops at times, drop back to 2meg video and it is fine. I tried cat6 cable and it was very smooth, no problems. still trying to improve the wireless. Internet operation is easy and simple. Like to be able to use it with 64bit Internet Explorer, as the 32bit works heavy on the computer cpu, on a 3gig Intel cpu, 8megs ram. (Posted on 2/26/13)
A lot of bang for the buck! Review by Gadget Guru
Yes there were issues with some apps viewing this cam but, that is because it is a different format then the others. The camera picture during daytime is awsome! The IR seems to be a bit brighter on this camera. (might just be the better quality) I like the firmware on the camera better also. Live cams app worked perfect until their update to 2.4.1. Now you have to mess around with your routers media port. (I down graded back to Live cams pro ver. 2.4 and my camera works perfect again) Just need to make it in a small dome camera. ;) (Posted on 1/24/13)
Great features set / mediocre details Review by CB
It seems this was rushed to the market. The hardware itself is great - good low light and IR performance, nice PTZ feature, wider lens, mic and speaker, 720p HD.
The downside is the polish. The image is a bit soft with the new lens, no audio control whatsoever, browser interface is limited to desktop version of Safari, IE and Firefox, no local or remote FTP video recording support within the app,
Needs a lot of polish. I would have given it 5 stars on both.
I like my Sharx cam in many aspects over this, until they fix the software and firmware issue. (Posted on 1/14/13)
The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly Review by Tim
Low light IR performance with F19821W is incredible, but IR video resolution compared to F19820W is greatly reduced and noisy on the horizontal plane. Reduced IR resolution & video noise is still fully acceptable as supplemental IR lighting is not required beyond 10M. I have found, the F19821W will perform IR imaging on it’s own over 80M. In this price range, nothing I have seen comes close in low light IR performance.
Multiple camera viewing with other compatible FOSCAM H264 cameras with standard software is a welcome feature.
No problems at all with Blue Iris PC software or iPhone apps: Blue Iris & Live Cams Pro.
The old (less than 3 months ), discontinued, F19820W is not compatible with built in FOSCAM multiple camera viewing software.
Daylight video resolution is not as good as the FI9820W, suspect this is maybe to the wider angle lens being used. But also could be attributed to firmware video settings for bit rate, frame rate, & key frame interval do not show latest applied settings. And I question if high quality video settings are truly applied. There is no way to confirm latest settings. Settings page defaults back to factory presets
Firmware does have many other issues (too many to list), primarily as stated above, the latest applied settings will not show as modified to users settings if one exits and reenters various setting pages.
Wireless settings do work, but applied settings will not show in the wireless setting page. You need to look in the device status to confirm if WiFi is working.
Video on screen display settings for time and camera name is not currently configured to turn these items on or off.
FOSCAM sent one used camera as new. Camera was not in the normal “Home” position, power cord was not tied, and network IP settings and password were not set to factory default. Had to perform a 30 sec. hot reset to default this camera back to proper settings.
Bang for the buck, I really like this cam, and will order more. But I do hope FOSCAM will correct the firmware issues soon, and will not send out any more used cameras as new.

Limited Compatibility! Review by MacTexan
This camera has great picture quality, but the SDK is completely different than previous Foscam models. IT DOES NOT WORK ON SECURITYSPY for the Mac. I can get it to work in BlueIris, but the PTZ causes errors. If all you want to use is a browser, the picture quality is great.
Admin Note: Blue Iris has since fixed this issue. We are in contact with SecuritySpy and have provided them our SDK to incorporate functionality (Posted on 1/9/13)
Good Product but requires some know how to get it working Review by SRV
The FI9821W does work with BI but you have to update the software to the latest Rev. Also some wireless routers require firmware updates to work with the new H.264 format. All in all after performing all these updates the FI9821W works well. IP CAM Viewer Pro on my Adriod device works as well. The only issue I have right now is that you can not set the default home position of the camera after a power fail or reset. They claim that the web interface functions match that of the FI8910W but I don't see it. The PTZ functions are also slow. (Posted on 1/9/13)
Update: Foscam FI9821W and BlueIris Review by Max
Just an update, there were previous issues with Blue Iris 3.14 where the preset buttons would not work. Blue Iris has been updated to 3.14.02 and the issues are resolved. (Posted on 1/7/13)
Email support Review by David
not sure if these latest models support smtps - not many ISPs allow unencrypted smtp connections (for sending alerts), this is real problem with earlier cameras at least... (Posted on 1/7/13)
Foscam FI9821W and BlueIris Review by Max
I recently purchased a model FI9821W and love the camera. The picture is much more clear and crisp than the 8910 version cameras I have. The only complaint is that the Blue Iris software presets do not trigger movement with the camera. The PT functions work fine, but the preset positions do not appear to work with BI 3.14 and the latest foscam firmware. (Posted on 1/6/13)
FI9821W Nice Review by Clark
So far this has way better brightness control and low light capabilities than the FI9820W. So far I like it a lot! (Posted on 1/6/13)
Wait !!!!!!!!! Review by Wags
Firmware is buggy, beware.!!! Cannot connect over wifi, security flaws, and more. No iPhone or iPad apps support this camera yet, few third party surveillance packages support it either. If you need a camera that you only view through a desktop machine web browser (iPad/iPhone Safari doesn't work either) and have a wired connection to the camera then this is for you. If you want to use it fo anything else stay away. Will be a long time for these issues to be cared for as there isn't even a published SDK/API for this camera. Has been rushed to market with many short comings.
Response from Admin:
The FI9821W is supported in version 3.14 of Blue Iris. On the Iphone and Ipad, FI9821W is supported by "LiveCams Pro" as well as the Official Foscam App (soon to be released for free). The SDK/API has been published and is available to developers -- Please contact [email protected] to request the SDK/API.
